Im not on the hunt for anybody - it was a clever penalty well executed

I don't believe it was a penalty from confidence, more one that was played as safely as possible by rolling it into the net. Thankfully it still went in and the score line makes it almost irrelevant anyway, but given it's a match thread; it is pretty fair game to talk about it and call it what it is.

Simms in my opinion, should have been given the chance to take it. It has nothing to do with being 'a registered charity'. He's our first choice striker and at present that's one of the stand out weakest areas of the pitch for us. He needs some confidence and that would have been a perfect opportunity for it. Not someone who is flapping over signing a new contract or not, and might not be here in five minutes.

Regardless, we won 6-2 and got into the hat for the next round comfortably. That's really all that matters.

The team were going out of their way to help Simms score from open play.

Or he could just be a bit unhappy that he feels fans have turned on him thinking he’s past it.

He did that celebration earlier in the year where it appeared he was pissed with the fans

Probably having a sulk as he can't accept his new place in the squad

Of all the glamorous ties we could get, people want Leicester or Villa.

Stop the obsession.
Yeah, who’d want to play the team top of our league and a team near the top of the whole league…that both happen to be our biggest rivals! Losers!

What happens if he took it and missed? That would have damaged his confidence more. This is the Dabo debate again. The player who is more confident they will score should take it.

Not sure I agree. What if Simms had taken it and missed? If his confidence is low, it would have been immense pressure. He's contributing to the team, and having shots saved. Better to score from open play when he doesn't have time to overthink it like a penalty

Sadly it didn't work.

If we want to increase our chances of hitting the playoffs then we need a new striker and central midfielder really. Still, was a good game for some today and hopefully being able to let the shackles off a bit will have raised the belief in the team a bit more going into Leicester.

Well it must be fairly galling for Godden who has been a great servant to the club and a great goalscorer to be left out of the starting line up again. He has always been professional but his omission today must have hurt.

Well quite, it cost us even more goals but can’t complain. Nice of MR to take a cup tie seriously in any case

Goddens attitude is shit when it's not going his way. Wants to be the main man and won't accept anything less.

Think Vik probably put him in his place and told him to shove it when he was here, hope Simms does the same to him.

Tavares gets his name sung for existing but Godden scores twice and gets nowt. Odd fans we are sometimes

As a forward you should be gunning to take one. I recall Mowbray (I know, I know) saying that it was the best way for a striker to build up their tally and confidence and they should always be taking them. It is bizarre to me why he didn't take it, especially as it was O'Hare, and if by what is to believed, is about to leave. If what you both are saying is true, and Simms isn't capable of taking a penalty against Oxford, then perhaps he is at the wrong team if he wants to be a top Championship striker.

One thing is for sure though, after the Dabo incident, we still don't really have good protocol on penalties.

He's gonna have to drop to league 1 or 2 then if he wants to be star boy still.

He's in the later years of his career and he could settle to be a squad player and mentor the younger players in the squad now. If he doesn't want that then that's fine, but he will need to go.

Prefer to get as far as we can until those sides are unavoidable. More money in the bank and more interest from casual fans
Oh for sure. But I still think it’d be decent…even if it’s only for the first 5 mins. Tbh I don’t really care about Leicester. Villa were always the rivals for me.

He scored two goals today.

That isn’t what strikers with a shit attitude do

A great result and some good performances, am I being a little harsh on saying Wilson should have done better for their second goal?

Atmosphere was weird full stop today. Hardly any player songs, although Fabio was one which was a nice touch after injury. Too busy singing ‘Oxford get battered’ and other mocking songs….they’re two leagues below us ffs 😂

Fans were cringe today. First time in a while I was embarrassed to be a City fan.

Amazing. Godden has always come across as a real team player. With fans like that I can understand more why he woukd feel unhappy.

Its a good thing for a striker a lot of the time, but he seems to get in a right hump if everything isn’t perfect for him and always seems to have an arrogance well above his overall ability. The rumours last year about him and Vik say it all, and Saddlebrains rumours this season.
