I think that Godden coming off the bench actually works in Godden's favour. He's getting older and anything that can help even out that disadvantage is good for him. Against tired legs he might just get that extra yard of space to get a shot away he might not have got in say the 10th or 20th minute.

In the meantime, given that we are getting goals from elsewhere and Simms is going to provide a more physical test for defenders having him start is fine. Sure, eventually we need to start seeing a higher goal output from him but for the time being things are working overall. If he still isn't getting in the goals by the end of the season then maybe we'd have to start thinking of whether we want to stick or twist.

Ellis has made 26 appearances and has scored 3 goals .
Has less touches than matty godden per 90 minutes played

Much of our success has absolutely nothing to do with the CFs this season..they've scored 9 of our 38 league goals , neither have worked particularly well in the system

Thats fact
That's a good way of using 'fact' as fiction.

26 appearances but hardly ever on for 90 minutes. You're setting yourself up for another big fall. For what seems like the 1,000th time this season we need to give the players time. Let them get used to where each other likes the ball and where they run. Even down to settling in to a new area.

Simms has been much better the last few games. And it isn't just the goal/assists. Both our strikers taking goals off each other and having a laugh about it. Both being on the goal line to do it. Godden would just be reaching the penalty area hoping for a rebound to come straight to him so he can score. It's what he does best. And having a big lump like Simms in the area will create havoc and make space for others.

Let's make it simple.

Godden. Area predator but slow. He can't keep up with our attacks so we attack with a player less. Bring him on after 70 minutes. He could be our David Fairclough. Tired defenders make more mistakes.

Simms. Power and pace. The opposite in every way to Godden. Now he is having a run in the side there has been an improvement. In the recent games Robins has started Godden against the easier sides and Simms against the better sides. Even with the difference of quality of our opposition Simms has played the better of the two.

Godden will go down in history as one of the main players that got us where we are. That promotion meant we could take Gyokeres on loan. It meant we had players of value making our club have a value. SISU managed a deal to go because of this.

Super Matty Godden was the catalyst on getting rid of SISU. We should never forget this. But we still need to look forward. Simms is starting to come good. If you can't see that you're watching the wrong player or have called him shite so many times it is difficult to give him praise when deserved.

Godden has had more minutes on the pitch this season than Wright or Simms

Guys , I'm not arguing against ellis simms, I think Simms is the future , I think the main reason this thread was revived was more to do with the way people treat godden on social media.

It deviated into other things

It seems a bit odd the notion he might retire or take a pay cut when he’s earning more than in his career!

I'm not sure why people are having a go or anything?

The club has issued a FB post making a thing about him being on the programme cover on Saturday. Don't recall them making anything of the programme cover before...

Could just be the 50 goals thing or could be more significant.

Anyone else spot that he did the same thing after each goal vs. Oxford? Used his shirt to wipe his nose. All a bit weird.

Definitely a slur against the club

Oh, I don't think so. Matty has always been respectful of the club and vice versa from the majority of fans.

Matty isn't stupid, without making out we're Real Madrid or anything, but I don't think he'll ever go to a better club than us, and he knows it.

All a storm in a teacup.

As an aside I noticed at full time that Allen seemed to ask Godden what the non celebration was about and was met with an ‘I dunno’ shrug.

Have we seen his last goal in sky blue? Barely getting a look in now. Didn't get brought on at Wolves or WBA when we were chasing the game. Never going to displace Simms on current form.

Still might need him yet. Lots of games to go and you can't expect Wright and Simms to play in them all and stay fit and healthy the entire time.

I still think he could prove useful at some point.

He’s a squad player now just like Kelly and Allen. They have to accept their new roles.
