Celtic are, as are another 2 championship clubs

No idea if that changes the equation, we were in a good position a few days back, depends where he wants to go i suppose
Any others looking very likely, Swedish keeper, Rudoni, McCallum, Dolan?

Probably Celtic then. 60K attendances, likelihood of domestic trophies and a qualifying game in the champions league.
I don't think Celtic vs an ambitious Championship club is quite as nailed on as it was. League is woeful and even the Old Firm are just gradually getting worse.

A new midfielder is far down the list for Celtic this summer. They are after a new keeper and then a new CB and then a new forward and then a new winger.

Currently a new midfielder is more likely tohappen if they sell O'Riley or Hatate but i can't see them spending big on Browne yet, smacks of James McCarthy and they got their fingers burnt there.

Players are though
But their agents aren’t and that’s who is doing the work not the player. However you are right the player needs to be around to complete their medical.

if I were a player out of contract I’d sort my future and remove my financial risk and then go on holiday but I accept some may choose not to …

Time will tell ….

Most will go on holiday first.

Their contracts dont expire until 30th June so plenty of time to sort a new club before pre season starts again in July

I hope we get in first on the good players. This guy seems well regarded and fits that category. Fingers crossed

Most agents will of been in contact with most interested clubs well before the season ended or the players contracts are up. A lot is agreed before hand which is difficult for the buying club as things and offers can be used to increase a deal elsewhere. The agent will say its in the players interest to keep the open for business sign up, but most know its underhanded if something has been agreed in principle.

Its just business, it will never change so nothing is done until they are holding the shirt up at Ryton or the ground.

Going to Scottish league is like giving up on football.
It's not though is it. Great history and tradition and 2 of the worlds biggest clubs playing in the worlds biggest derby on more money than here with European football. The media has a lot to answer for with England centric view of football just look at the European competitions this year, how did the 'best league in the world' get on? Had Virgil Van Dijk or Henrick Larsson given up on football when they signed for Celtic?

exactly. Bias aside, i’d rather be playing infront of 60,000 fans, winning every week - and playing in Europe, over any average championship side.

Our rose tinted glasses are clouding judgement here slightly..

If lucky they get european football beyond August and they are essentially playing 8 meaningful matches a season in the league

I agree that the ‘best league in the world’ nonsense is exactly that. However-the SPL is a dreadful far cry from the heyday of Scottish football. It’s a seriously poor standard now and if you look at who’s moved there from this league recently it says quite a bit.

Tom Lawrence and Todd Cantwell haven’t exactly stood out for Rangers since they moved

So the pictures of players signing contracts in person are AI generated then are they? If it was as easy as you suggest why has there been only 1 signing announced in the whole football league so far?
The signings are mostly symbolic these days ….

I’m not suggesting they are easy, they are far from it , but I’m simply suggesting that SOME free agents will want their future and financial security sorted before they go away/ on holiday.

Accudents happen all the time on holiday it matters less to you if you have a 3 yr deal a signed … it’s a material problem if you are out of contract …

It used to be much better than it is now. It used to be able to attract big names like Larsson, Canniga, Di Canio, Gascoigne, Van Hoooooooooojdoink etc.

In the last decade the Scottish Premiership has declined rapidly. It isn’t a competitive league by any stretch of the imagination. Yes I do agree Rangers and Celtic are 2 massive clubs, but the league they are in is poor.

If a player really wants to grow and test themselves then it’s not even close to the English Premiership and it would struggle against top Championship clubs.
