So have transfer fees just shot up recently or have we given up on the Sheaf/Vik/Hamer style signings at around £1m? Maybe my scale is just well off. Just feels now we’re paying loads for gambles whereas before we were paying peanuts for first teamers.

Gus had some of the best stats in Europe. Sheaf in L1. Vik while he’d had a poor year was the result of Brightons scouting and had a good history before them. Now we’re going after players relegated teams think are a bit shit for twice the price.

£4.5m for Kitching. Probably bollocks but the rumoured £5m for Sorba. These seem like insane fees to me. But maybe I’m out of touch.
No chance are signing Sorba and defo not for 5m. We paid an inflated amount for Kitching as it was at the end of the window and we were desperate but it defo wasn’t 4.5m, more like 3m at max

Nope, not now, he'll always be 5' 2" and that's far too small for a full back

Where did this idea full backs have to be six foot five come from?

Dasilva is taller than Roberto Carlos. And before people start no I’m not saying he’s better or as good as.

He's a fullback playing at fullback, players can have more than one position. And it's *Pulis :p
If players can have more than one position then why are you by the statement above implying that he only has one position ? How would you have categorised Paul Warhurst ?

He's a fullback when playing fullback and a centre half when playing centre half, with the ability to play both. Your mind tricks don't work on me...

Palmer debate aside, Rudoni would be an excellent signing. So many positive attributes and I think he’d become a fans favourite pretty quick.

And for £2M it’s an absolute no-brainer.

Genuinely don’t get any negativity around the rumour. Stats can be interpreted in different ways and should always be analysed with context in mind.

You've answered your own question.

Roberto Carlos was a world class footballer, which made up for his lack of stature. Dasilva is meh, which does not make up for him being a dwarf.

Dasilvas height doesn't bother me, it's that as a defender he seems to have no positional awareness whatsoever. He's so easy to get away from.

Would absolutely love someone like Zian Flemming as opposed to Rudoni. Looks like Milwall will look to cash in on him too..

You're falling to that classic forum trap of talking in absolutes. We signed Torp in the last window who wasn't far off this - and he hasn't hit his full potential yet. Vik, Hamer, Sheaf were also not instantly ready at those prices, either.

Reality is if we're aiming to level up the squad and make the playoffs in 3 of the next 4 seasons, we need to sign some players at higher rates that are already experienced in the championship.

I'm sure there's room for both depending on the players available and the budget. But we should expect to be levelling up our transfer fee spend because we also need/expect to these players to have impact much faster.

It does me, there was no end of teams that played the ball in the air towards him
Exactly this.
The lofted diagonal ball to the LB area was a gift for every opposition.

In as much as Wright was a good outlet for us due to his height advantage versus his RB marker, the same ball was a danger for us with Dasilver as a LB. (Along with his poor positional sence)

(And before any of the usual suspects start, I'm not saying Wright's only asset was his height)

Just to point out. Dasilvas aerial duel success rate (31%) while much worse than Bidwell (~51%) is about the same as van Ewijks (36%).

The cost of raw materials has increased drastically since we did the deals for Gus, Vik & Sheaf.

Joking aside, Vik was a big gamble at ~£1m with limited track record. Gus was a total bargain and undervalued, partly as a foreigner. Young English players always command a premium.

I rate Rudoni from what I've seen of him. He was the best player on the pitch in our game up there last season. Always showed for the ball, dictated play for them. Was a constant threat throughout. Plus he's only 22.
He would be a great signing. Plenty of experience already, proven at this level, and still young enough for us to develop.

74.6% of stats are meaningless, the other 29% are just bullshit.

Most clubs, including our own, are using stats to guide our recruitment policy.

Do you reckon one our scouts fancied a game of footy in Turkey whilst on their trip for a hair transplant and stumbled across Haji Wright?

Yeh I don't think it's a major issue for a full back. If you're good defensively you can make that ball tricky for them whether you're tall or not. Problem is he isn't good defensively.
Unfortunately for him he was obviously recruited to play wing back where you can get away with it a bit more, but that formation needs to get in the bin and probably him along with it.
