Stats have their place, but i think our scouts might actually attend matches and watch players rather than just googling some random stats sight.
Stats help with sifting thousands of possible signings m but proper due diligence involves watching a player play.

Tbf, how they handled Gyokeres once he was in the club is more on the management/coaching team. You'd have to say they still did well do find a player like playing for a club that i think was Swedish Second Division at the time.
Something was definitely wrong at Brighton and Swansea for a player like Gyokeres to be noticed, recruited, and later let go for £1m, and then subsequently to be valued at eu100million

As much as McNulty, Vik, Simms & Wright have been successes, we have had a few strikers under Robins reign that haven't worked out, and were probably some of the top earners at the time.

Waghorn was a quality player, who looked to of lost his pace.
Clarke Harris had all the attributes and tbf has had a fantastic scoring record since leaving. Rumour has it his attitude may have been questionable at times.
Walker had scored goals elsewhere, but was just lazy imo, and Mcguire was a decent player, just never a goalscorer.

Gyokeres was quite tall but relatively poor in the air.
Obviously not quite as tall as the centre half's who marked him though, so I stand by my previous statement.
David Speedie would have been shorter than Gyokeres but was far better in the air.

100% correct. Subjective assessments by partial humans can be wildly variable. Just look at the judgements on here in the Player Ratings thread after each match. You guys watch a lot of football but opinions are all over the shop.
But mine are always right. So if you hire people who actually know football we will be ok
