I notice from the ones who did go, it seems to be the younger of the cohort (Simms, Binks et al.) and the older ones with families were happy to give it a miss

While that is hot as fuck, you’ll be alright cause vegas is geared up for it, everywhere has AC and pools etc. I went to Portland on the weekend that happened to be the record Portland temperature in history in June 2021, 116 F…and nowhere had AC or anything 🫠

Actually makes me angry when places like this and Dubai in fucking deserts have lush green grass with pools and huge water features everywhere.

The water features use recycled water on loops.

Its probably a model for water conservation to be honest

If we can crack clean power then desalination shouldn’t be an issue, the main problem with how UAE do it seems to be that they dump the resulting brine in the ocean. But surely they could just not do that?

A slightly odd take. Gets its water from the Colorado river mostly from Lake mead and mitigates the impact significantly.

But does everywhere that has a net negative impact on local water resources make you angry?

Does it also make you angry that many parts of the North and Midlands of England import water from Wales?
On a related issue, why on earth aren't the authorities building new reservoirs? It's ridiculous to bleat about water shortages if fuck all's done about it.
