It’s the number 2 voter priority with 38% having it as their most important issue. So only about half of those are saying they’ll vote Farage.

Instead of just bashing Farage which is easy, what I want to see from the main parties is how they plan to combat subjects like immigration. If you say 1 in 5 support him, then what cab be offered to persuade that big chunk of people to lean in a different direction or engage with them to why they feel that is so important. Some won't change whatever, but a lot of those will be dissatisfied Labour or Conservative traditional voters.

Also, those more left leaning of you should if anything be encouraging it, because if they are largely protest votes and spilts in most cases the Conservative vote, that will give Labour even greater success.

I’m not sure what I’d be advising labour if I was in labour hq

there’s nothing that can be done because it isn’t a coherent complaint. It’s all based on vibes as Mac’s admitted earlier in the thread. There’s a belief there’s hundreds of thousands of “illegals” when the actual problem is we need huge amounts of health and social care staff. The only things higher than immigration in voters concerns are the two things massively reducing immigration would instafuck: the economy and the NHS. So there’s no electoral benefit and no route to a majority copying Farage. Fringe parties that will never be elected like Reform Greens Lib Dems know they can make nonsense policy up and never have to follow through.

And I absolutely support Reform standing. I hope they get more seats than the Tories.

I'm normally not fussed either way about votes for 16 year old but would like to see it introduced as a fuck you to the tories after they introduced voter ID which is a scandalous attempt to suppress voting amongst a certain demographic in the electorat.

Yeah, this has really pissed me off. MY son has just turned 18 and can't vote as he doesn't have a DL - he doesn't have the co-ordination to drive - or a passport (our fault that), so no photo ID. The cases or election fraud are teeny tiny. They just introduced legislation to stop young people voting for Labour.

To be fair, as well as obviously playing on people’s fears, he’s a very good communicator, even if the substance behind it is questionable

I’m not sure Sunak and Starmer, or a lot of politicians, have that ability to connect with normal people. Starmer made sure he’s got some good communicators is his shadow cabinet though. It shouldn’t be as important as it is but in this day and age it’s essential

Even then I wouldn’t be surprised if a deal is done with the Tories post election that means Reform MP’s become Tories. I don’t think it would be a merger as such, more an agreement to defect and then close the Reform Party. Especially if it’s the difference between Tories being in opposition or the Lib Dem’s being in opposition. Even more especially if Farage is elected to parliament.
