Godden leaving.

Hes not been happy ever since he lost the captaincy to Sheaf. Also his relationship with the supporters isn't exactly what it was, and he wants to move on

Charlton the most likely destination at the moment though Pompey are very keen

Pleased to hear this, been great for us but this season showed that he’s got worse and is done for pace by most players these days. No point carrying players if they aren’t use to us.

How long’s left on his contract? Might as well get 300-500k for him and save the wages.

Sad about the fans relationship. Just goes to show how loyalty is a 2 way street. We can’t expect it from them - when our own is just as fickle.

I’ll forever love Godden, my cousin on the other hand wants him gone. I see the need for him to move on, but I don’t actively want it

He should probably have not acted like a prick for the last two years then. The shit with Vik then his “celebrations” this year, and all the ranting and raving at Simms and Wright.

Why do footballers fuck themselves up with ego all the time?

Godden has been a great player for us totally respect the role he’s played for the club.

but he’s not good enough anymore and needs to move on, and maybe there was something in those celebrations, or lack of shall I say, when he bagged that brace vs Oxford, found that pretty odd. Although I appreciate the game was probably won at the time.

Got nothing personal or bad to say about Godden, great player for the club, good bagsman, but it happens the team has evolved massively and he's unfortunately not up to our level anymore, sad but will be a great asset for a top League 1 side or a newly promoted Championship side.

If he goes to a championship side he’s going to score past us, sods law 😂

It will be a very nominal 1 or 200k, Robins happy for him to get his move as he's been so good for us over the years

Agreed, the club should act in good faith and let him go for a reasonable price. Additionally, we need to be more forward thinking and get a player who’s capable of impacting games from the bench if Wright and Simms are the starters.

Godden was rarely able to impact the game from the bench and his 1 league goal from September is telling. 2021/22 he hit his peak for us and not been able to keep those levels.

Apart from on here is Godden's relationship with supporters really impaired? He still gets his song and I don't know anybody who wants him gone in particular.

Anyway, if he does go it's definitely with my best wishes and gratitude for the role he's played. He exceeded expectations in the Championship and scored both our first home and first away goal back at this level.

Well as long as fans sing their singy song then life is good… cute

He’s one of our all time greats in terms of goals scored for the club. Just some of his on the pitch antics this season have soured it a bit.

Ipswich are also looking into Coventry midfielder Ben Sheaf although his price tag could be a problem.
O’Brien is valued under £10 million while the Sky Blues are asking much more than that for Sheaf who is also wanted by Luton.

Sheaf is a good fit for Ipswich and they will need a centre midfielder as that Morsey is going to be suspended a lot in the prem as he won’t get away with his persistent fouling there

He honestly knows nothing

Sheaf will not go unless someone comes in and offers 20 or above. We don't have to sell him. Next summer is different

Excellent - you want sheaf, you pay top top dollar or nothing.

And @Saddlebrains you may know more, but he doesn’t seem like he’s going to kick up fuss and lead us down garden path like some did last year.

I do hope we are upping his wages however, significantly if staying.

He wont do, stated before he's the model pro, in the Liam Kelly mould. Hence the captaincy

He of course has made no secret of the fact he wants a crack at the prem, and Robins and co are aware. But he also knows his value to us as a club and understands if no one meets it, then he's here to captain us to another tilt at it

If we are brave this summer, he can lead us there, I’m convinced.

I think 15 with add ons would make the club consider it.
I like Sheaf a lot and did even when he was initially here the first season in The Championship and struggled - and I am not for one minute saying we should sell him

But I do think there is a question to be asked if we get a decent offer in - Is he as irreplaceable as Gyok and Hamer? He does seem to get little niggly injuries that keep him out for a month or two a couple of times a season as well

Under SISU I would have dreaded the thought of him going but safe in the knowledge now that any fee would mostly be allocated to reinvesting in the playing staff a really good offer would make you think
