Based on this thread, I take it that the mood in the UK at the moment is one of optimism, hope, a clear sense of direction of the incoming government and engagement with politics?
Sarcasms still alive and kicking, thank goodness,

Really is, wonder how much battery you'd actually need for the smaller version!!
We owned one back in the day and could get 4 little uns in the back!
I think the suggestion was that it would be more environmentally friendly to keep ICE but shrink cars.
Something the size of the original Mini would probably only end up with an electric range of 50 miles max. That’s 80km for our europhile brethren.

Why do you say that when most people in this thread dislike Starmer/this Labour party?

The vast majority of people can't wait to get the Tories out though.
Outside of your centrist dad bubble the mood is that we’ll finally be shot of the Tories, shame we’ve got a fake one replacing them.

If it a blanket ban on ICE only cars being sold, are hybrid engines allowed under the new regs? I can't imagine there being a hard stop on petrol engines being made.

All ICE cars including hybrids has always been the plan afaik. Second hand cars last forever these days so I’d expect it to be another 15 years or so before its majority electric on the road

Well You don’t know much - hybrid new builds carry on 5 years longer until 2035

Aren’t this higher interest rates a result or QE and all the spending during the pandemic.

Interest rates are temporary, council tax will be permanent. Plus the rest of the taxes that will emerge in the shortness of time.
Interest rates are high as it's the only tool the bank of England has to combat inflation. It is nothing at all to do with spending during COVID.

What contributed to inflation? All the money awash as a result of QE and the wicked Tories paying companies to keep workers in employment via the furlough scheme.

Isn't inflation a tool to funnel the money up the chain so the wealthy can gobble up more assets?

Firstly, that's an absolute Charlie Nicholas of a comeback.

Secondly, your obsession with my dad is fucking weird.

I don’t have an obsession.

I do though find it ironic that someone who freely admits at 18 had to ask his father who to vote for now believes the voting age should be reduced to 16

The opposite surely? The economic point of inflation is to encourage rich people to spend their money instead of hoarding it. Only works when you don’t have housing as a safe haven I guess.

John 13.12-16

'Jesus said to his disciples, “So, if I your Lord and teacher have washed your feet, you ought also to wash one another’s feet.” ’
Jesus shows us – in actions, not in words – what true leadership looks like. The true leader comes not to be served, but to serve.

Leaders of political parties carry great privilege and responsibility. They can influence the culture and the content of our national life, especially during elections. At the same time, the pressures they are under are hard to imagine.

And they are, of course, just human. They will need the support of those closest to them – their households and friends, as well as advisors – to be able to face whatever challenges lie ahead for them.

Whether or not we intend to vote for them or the candidates from their party, let’s pray today for the resilience and wellbeing of all party leaders. Let’s pray that they may all speak and act in ways that build up rather than undermine. And let’s pray that they use their voice and influence for the common good.
Bless all those called to government and opposition;
guide and guard them in their public service.
Hear us, good Lord.

Neither of those things are true, but good try.

And you are obsessed. And despite being told it's fucking weird you persist.

I take it back - you were 19

"I voted Tory when I was 19 because I was a naive kid who knew nothing of the world and thought they were the good guys because that's what my dad told me."

And people are absolutely lapping it up, it's mad

No one is lapping it up. All minor parties can put any nonsense in the manifesto as anyone voting for them knows the party will not be elected.
