in response to your post, about 85-90% would disagree,
your wind up elicited an appropriate response,
many fans were there who were up for the city to win

I couldn't care less what side Sheffield utd played tonight, I don't care how we played. The fact is we beat them and they were the best side in the competition and now we are only 2 matches away from Wembley. If I was a player I would love to play at Wembley so this might be a factor in mcgoldrick staying if he goes then 2 nil- nil draws and win on pens and we are at wembley. A little bit of success for all supporters no matter if they go every week or once every 25 years... This club has been so hard to follow for the last 15 years just give us a bit of success because after all the misery this makes success taste even better. After all man utd , arsenal, Chelsea fans will never ever feel how we all felt after we lifted up the fa cup in 1987 and that is why we all love this club..

Ps SISU out

Some are taking this out of context. A win and maybe a Wembley trip will help the confidence etc but by the time that Wembley day comes around the league will have all been sorted.
My concern is the practicable one. I worry playing more games than we need to means more injuries, fatigue and ultimately defeats in league games. I just want to get out of this league and we have a chance to make it this season.
Just why there is quite so much excitement about a trophy that will have zero meaning is beyond me a little. Winning does keep building a bit of form and confidence runs through to leahue form but equally it usually ends in tears and league form suffers. the big prize is the promotion challenge.
Don't get me wrong it would be great to see us have some modicum of success by getting to Wembley but not if there is a heavy price.
If we could gain a playoff position and get to Wembley then that would be success but I'd give up Wembley in a heart beat to get a playoff spot.
Its just the practicality nothing else. I see the romantics viewpoint but let us others have our perfectly reasonable view.

Why not 2 trips to Wembley see the JPT final as a warm up to the playoff final, just like buses wait for ages and then....

How on earth can you say it has zero meaning Pax.

70,000 fans at Wembley. The feel good factor winning a trophy will bring to the city. The confidence it would bring to both fans and players alike. The money it would bring the club.

How can it possibly have zero meaning?

Had you been there last night and seen the Sky Blue faces of both the fans and the players you would have seen that the competition had anything but zero meaning believe me.

We all know that this competition is mickey mouse, however,it would be great to see wembley full of city fans again, even if its for the younger fans who've had nothing.

In my view having a season ticket doesn't necessarily make you a supporter. I regard you as a fan and not a supporter. Only you could put a negative spin on an incredible night like tonight.

I don t agree with Grendel but this is the most stupid thing I have heard on here by some stretch and that's saying something

it would be great if we went all the way, yes it isn't an FA cup final but we have to take that into the context and situation we are currently in, we are a league one club so this is our realistic FA cup final! However there is a long, long way to go.

Anyone who thinks going through last night was a waste of time is in my opinion very short sighted about the clubs needs. You win any game in anyway you can when you are in our position. I see no Negatives to getting closer to Wembley from the manager, players or fans point of view but if anyone can give me one legit reason, hats off to you. But me ill never understand it or except it, im sure our beloved SISU are rubbing there horrible little hands at the thought of wembley aswell.

So Robins i thank you for looking at the bigger picture of our club and wish you luck in giving me the chance to bring back a day as a fan that will live long in the memory....

Well this is it exactly!

We are a League One club now. One day that will get into all of our thick heads. We can't be in the Champions League or the Europa League, have no chance of winning the FA or League Cup, but are in the JPT and it is a trophy we can win!

We are in League One and the JPT is a competition for League One and Two clubs. It really is that simple.

wether it acts as a cataylst or not if we win it ,it will isntantly be added to our favourite memories

winning the JPT at wembley infront of 40k cov fans etc

we dont get to celebrate much so ill take what i can thank you very much!"

p.s it WILL be a catalyst imo if we dont go into admin or worse.

A great run in this competition and the winning of a trophy will also surely translate into bigger and better crowds too.

This is a welcome distraction from the league for me. I would love us to win it but if we don't win I won't be fussed too much about it.

Exactly.

If we get knocked out it's not going to be that big of a blow. It's just a nice chance to get to a final and Wembley. It's not the be all and end all of everything, but it would still be a very fine achievement.

It's just a very nice diversion.

i would not be devasted if we get knocked out as it hasn't got the same buz as the real cup, yet this is where we are at Div 3 team in Div 3 & 4 cup.

For anyone under 30 it would be the first taste of success as a Sky blue fan, so i can appreciate why some are more excited about this than me.

So lets not put a wet blanket on any success that is long overdue

It's a fair point and I guess that for some supporters who have never experienced any success then this is a positive experience. I also do accept that the positive spin may create some feel good factor for the club.

The club should get credit for lowering prices as well.

Can't quite see why some people have got so excited about my fairly innocous take on it to be honest. I think even the F A Cup has less appeal than it used to.

I'm half with you. It's not the most prestigious cup going, and if Leicester were getting excited about it we would take the piss. But......

It's a fantastic opportunity for a bit of a giggle and a day out in London. I hope we do it.

Strangely I've just looked at your favourite book - the Thesaurus and it describes a fan as a supporter.

If your going to insult me at least give it some meaning.

I understand if people place more priority on one thing or aren't too upset about another (how many Man City fans are shedding tears over missing out on a Europa League spot this morning?) but personally I'd kill for a JPT win. Any kind of win. I'm not fussy. Anglo-Liechtensteiner Cup exists, right? We could take FC Vaduz.

The club will definately play 56 games this year - more than they have played since 1980.

Robins to his credit plays a full strength squad for all games but the players he rates means the real squad is pretty small and we lose Bailey and McGoldrick soon.

If we have a good December (big if) we will be in the top 10.

Already there is a debate which is the most imprtant -- Tottenham or the JPT game -- persoanally the Carlisle game is the most important the following Saturday. Already the Tranmere game will now have to be re-arranged.

Thing is Grendel though of course the league is the most important competition for any side, anything that gets us into a winning mentality and out of a losing one is worth getting behind. Building confidence at home and against fellow L1 sides has to be a good thing.

Plus the fact, say we make it to the Area Final.....a packed ricoh (well i should hope 20 - 25k at least) will help the players feel better about playing in front of the Home crowd. A win like that will boost the team no end, because to be fair they seem to struggle more in front of the home fans than when we are away!

its about the club winning something for me,not about a day out getting drunk.

why do we support a team if we dont care about actually winning?

'I hope we do it' = I hope we win it

I won't be shouting about it if we do, as it's a nothing cup, but I'll be pleased.

There are some pretty powerful arguments in favour some of which I hadn't considered to be fair.

The size of attendance was encouraging as well.

So I will concede I was somewhat negative in my opinion and hadn't though of all the options......sort of.

I fall into the "I hope we get to wembly & win it....but I don't really care if we get knocked out next round" category....

....In the meantime, I'll see some of you at Doncaster a week on saturday....
