Honestly don't mind keeping what we have at LB for now until January at least. Getting a new LB and binning Bids off could backfire severely if the signing doesn't pan out and the only other option being JDS. Better to focus on priority positions, keeping the consistency with Bids, scouting replacements during the season and reassessing Bids in January to determine if a signing must be made then or in the summer.

Don't be writing JDS off, we all know Viveash really rates him, could be like a new signing if he produces what he's capable of.
Yeah I don't think we've seen the last of JDS. If we could assert more control of games and have more territory he'd be a useful option because he's much better on the ball than Bidwell.

Hey and you never know JDS could bounce the fuck back and pleasantly surprise us all.

If we sign a new LB now and got promoted there would be questions on whether we needed to upgrade again in the Prem.

Bidwlel we know is good enough to get us promoted based on experience previously with him in the team.

Its worth keeping him around for one season, seeing if we go up and then upgrading at the same time

I’m with you on this one, he showed glimpses of what he can do last season, if he bounces back and plays to his true ability, it could be like a new signing. Let’s not write him off just yet.

If we signed a new LB then we would still be only one injury away from JDS?? He has 3 years remaining on his contract so he is going to nowhere for this season at least.

Bidwell was a very good player for us last year and whilst I agree we could always upgrade , we don’t have unlimited funds and there are other areas that need strengthening first over Jake Bidwell.

Apart from goalkeeper what area needs strengthening over Bidwell?

The calibre of player I'd want us to target for that position (Burrows, McCallum etc.) would not sign to play second fiddle to Bidwell.
Burrows would be second fiddle. McCallum would be a substantial upgrade.

Also I know it's fashionable to criticise Dasilva on here but I would be surprised if he doesn't take over as first choice left back during the season if we don't strengthen, which we should,

JD, Binks, Torp and even Tavares showed what they're capable of in the cup semi
All 4 came on and improved us, with the signings we have already made added to the aforementioned all improving things aren't as bleak as some would have you believe
Dasilva is fine when the opposition are in defence mode, he's a fairly tidy footballer... the problem comes when he has to defend.

As I say they aren't appeasing him at all

He has a young family and over the past 18 months it's been clear for all to see MR has been trying to replace him, and fair enough. Bidders asked the question of are there plans to move me on in the near future so I can plan accordingly. He's been told no there aren't.

I really don't see what's wrong with that or am I being thick here?

People are saying we need experience, same people get rid of the most experienced left sided defender that had a great season. The worlds gone mad.

Exactly, if he has the ball in the opposition’s box then it’s fine, if he has it in our box then it’s recommended to find a sofa to hide behind.

Where we at with the rumour mill now then, can't keep up. is it..
Browne
Asante-Thomas
Dovin
Camara
We wouldn't need much after that would we? I bet Deadly Doug can secure all 4 for around a combined (bargain) £6 million too.

I'd be happy if that was all our business.

Real shame that, I find it odd that the management are trying to appease Bidwell at the cost of strengthening the team. The guy’s going to be worth very little in a season or two’s time, no one’s going to want a slow 32 year old LB, we’re also one injury away from playing JDS (*shudder) and it would have been such an ideal opportunity to get someone used to the team whilst Bidwell is still here to perform his main duties.

I don’t know why they didn’t just say to him that we’re looking for a younger LB this window but you will be our no. 1 LB for this season rather being all like “ooh oh no, please don’t go Bidwell, we love you, we’ll do anything you say Bidwell, don’t leave us” 😑😂

God you are clueless, Bidwell has in all of his time here been a consistent solid player. He's not being appeased it's just that with a limited budget and two LBs on the books already, it makes sense to prioritise other areas.

You think Bidwell is better than van Ewijk, Torp, Eccles, Kitching, Simms? Just wow!

I know someone on the Euros thread said he should be playing for England but this cult is getting weird.

Those areas need strengthening because we’ve got no depth. First team I’d say GK and CM are more of a priority. But no backup for Simms or MvE and no experience at the back are bigger concerns IMO.

Can’t you just have a bit of nuance before you go around calling people this and that? I don’t always appreciate your comments but I respect your points and don’t call you out as being “clueless”.

If you read my previous comments I never said that Bidwell should be ditched this year, I said we should be signing a younger talent that we can train up to take over Bidwell’s place in time because it appears that JDS isn’t good enough.

The idea that Bidwell is superman and he’s ultra-consistent and will remain that way for decades to come is clearly ridiculous. I get the point that we don’t have bags and bags of cash but just thinking a season or two ahead is good practice in my view. It’s not essential but maybe sign someone like a left-sided Camara for £1-2 mil and bring him on over the course of a season. Maybe next season we could let Bidwell explore other options, I personally don’t see how that sounds clueless to me.

Parklife.

First I believe the quality of your best player in each position is very important as they will play most matches barring injury.

Second I don't agree with your views on strength in depth. For example, are Simms and Wright weaker than Bidwell and Dasilva? For right back are van Ewijk and Eccles/Latibeaudiere weaker, or in midfield Eccles, Torp, Rudoni, Sheaf and Allen? I would argue Binks and Kitching is stronger too and Thomas and Latibeaudiere.

Other than goalkeeper left back is our weakest position with regard to quality of the first choice and strength in depth.

I’ve often been critical or frustrated by Bidwell, but I’d be happy to keep him and hope he stays on.

We need some experience in the team, especially the back line, as well as someone who I’m sure is another voice for the management team having been around longer than most.

It’s also important to note he has Wright (and likely EMC) ahead of him, so he can’t be as gung ho as MVE when he has Sakamoto in front of him. MVE/Sakamoto is one of the best balanced combinations in the league. Bidwell is a steady, reliable LB who will also at the very least occupy the space offensively.

Re JDS, he has a place this season. Games we’re expected to dominate and keep the ball I’m sure we’ll see him.
