Players are only worth more than we paid for them if obviously they impress, but also with years left on their contracts. 4 year deals seem the norm at the moment which is great if you plan to sell before it's up, but bad if you sign a lemon

They're also only worth what another club is prepared to pay for them.

Exactly which is why this nonsense about sticking rigidly to the model doesn't make sense. You get stuck with a bloated squad as you sell the good ones and are stuck with the ones who don't succeed.

The model will be used for the majority of the signings but not exclusive to what we do. Robins has already aluded to the fact you cant have good players sitting in the stands. You have to have balance and also have a pathway for not only our younger players having a route to being a 1st team starter.

Its just balance and Robins and Adi know this. They don't want numbers for numbers sake, they want everyone to compete and everyone to drive a high standard. The signings will be in more cases then not of players that can play in multiple positions, this adds to keeping numbers down and keeping in competitive. Im happy to sit and wait but i dint think we will know if we are flexible within the model until we see the 1st squad announcement at Stoke.

I am sure that is right. Loans need to be in the mix too as they add flexibility and potential extra quality, especially if they provide for an opportunity for us to sign permanently if they impress.

West Brom don't exactly play an expansive game but they are a very functional unit. In his 2 seasons in the Championship he's finished as their top scorer on both occasions. Also he'll offer more than just goals and something a bit different.

In my opinion we threw six points away against them last season. They hardly had to break sweat and they were not even that good.

Exactly but I bet a lot of teams say that after a match against West Brom. Winning in that fashion is an art in itself.

We just passed the ball about slowly, looking for a non existent perfect pass. No tempo just let them sit in deep. No crosses to work the central defenders and force errors. They had the night off. One of our worst home performances of the season. In the last ten minutes even the WBA fans were cheering every time we passed the ball, because they knew we were just not hurting them in anyway.

One of my pet peeves with us is how sluggish our midfield can be at times, and I know I bang on a lot about Eccles but that’s the one thing he does (and others do) that winds me up the most, passing for the sake of passing. He’s great at passing and getting in the way of opposition, I don’t want to understate that, but so many of his passes lack threat or thought, bar the odd moment of brilliance he rarely causes defences problems.

Although it’s not just solely him that does it, Van Ewijk, Bidwell, Allen, Thomas, Sheaf etc do it sometimes too, the whole defence/midfield to attack transition is very slow at times, it’s one area we need to work on as a team.

My big gripe with Da Silva, gets in good positions then just does negative safe passes. Never takes a risk. No wonder his passing stats are good.

It is not so much the passes we choose, it is the tempo. We don't move the ball quickly enough, we don't force the opposition to move and reshape. They can just sit in and stand there! At some point someone has to tip the ball in and work the centre backs.

How many own goals have been scored in the Euro's? All because teams have turned defenders and put them in a position where they have to play the ball while facing their own goal. Defenders hate it. But you make your own luck, force the errors.

Wonder if we’ll hear any more, today.

As we’re four pages in, and it’s a rumour based off a vague description of a rumoured player, rumoured to have (questionably) been seen somewhere where there was a hint of Sky Blue in the decor. Possibly.

We will have an outgoing in the next few days and a striker had a medical today, which should be announced maybe end of the week or start of the next

Something Hamer did extremely well. We also need forwards who are able to hold the ball when they get it early. Something Vik could do. I am hoping Wright and Simms improve on this this season.
