Figo now still walks into all of these teams
True, but incredibly rare & getting even rarer. There were 62 on field reviews in the PL last season. I think there were only 3 where they rejected the VAR & stuck with their original decision. It might be what they expect but a few refs in the PL did have the courage to stick with their original decision.
This offside rule has to change, the decision below is technically right with modern technology but for all intents and purposes this is two players standing side by side. Doesn’t seem in the spirit of the game to rule goals out for a boot size up.

Hahaha so true, the other night she proudly confirmed that 'this is how we now forensically analyse modern football'Spent 20 minutes listening to that ref bird sat under the stairs waffling on like it’s a fucking science lesson

I like her. Seems like she doesn’t agree with the laws either, just explains them really well.Fair play to her to be fair. She explains it well but it’s boring as fuck

The problem with the offside VAR decisions is there’s no real arguing with it. Having said that, am I right in thinking the VAR used in the Euros is different/better than the one did for us against Utd?
Yes. They are using Semi Automated VAR, i.e. not relying on someone just having a guess when a ball is kicked & where to draw a line whilst using a 50fps camera.I like her. Seems like she doesn’t agree with the laws either, just explains them really well.

Brilliant. So we’ve been using shite tech up until this point?Yes. They are using Semi Automated VAR, i.e. not relying on someone just having a guess when a ball is kicked & where to draw a line whilst using a 50fps camera.
Yes, we have been using the shite lines on a picture, and they don't.Brilliant. So we’ve been using shite tech up until this point?
Any way of using it retrospectively? I dunno, just off the top of my head, in like an FA Cup semi-final or something, to see if a decision was correct?
Or, you know, just use the same old system that's worked perfectly fine for a hundred years.Brilliant. So we’ve been using shite tech up until this point?

One of the subs with a hangover waving a bib around?Or, you know, just use the same old system that's worked perfectly fine for a hundred years.
What?!?! But then we’d be arguing about decisions…oh, hang on.Or, you know, just use the same old system that's worked perfectly fine for a hundred years.
Just get British officials in to take 5 time's as long as their counterparts to reach a decision!!One of the subs with a hangover waving a bib around?
Everyone moaned that assistants made mistakes so we found a system to make the decisions and now everyone moans that it as too close to give offsideOr, you know, just use the same old system that's worked perfectly fine for a hundred years.
I have said it all along my problem isn't with VAR it is with the inept people using it as well as the rules introduced - For clear and obvious errors no one would have an issue with it, for those who watched the L2 play off final last month, where a Crewe player made the most obvious dive and actually managed to dupe the referee into awarding a penalty, VAR stepped in and corrected it and that was great because if Crewe had been given that penalty it would have been an absolute travesty! If VAR was used like that then you literally cannot argue against itEveryone moaned that assistants made mistakes so we found a system to make the decisions and now everyone moans that it as too close to give offside
Just bananas
Yup, agree.I have said it all along my problem isn't with VAR it is with the inept people using it as well as the rules introduced - For clear and obvious errors no one would have an issue with it, for those who watched the L2 play off final last month, where a Crewe player made the most obvious dive and actually managed to dupe the referee into awarding a penalty, VAR stepped in and corrected it and that was great because if Crewe had been given that penalty it would have been an absolute travesty! It's when you start judging people offside for the length of a gnats chaff or with parts of the body you can't even score with when you start to get your problems - That isn't VAR's fault it's down to the lawmakers
Then again, is it any wonder we are here yet again discussing how shit VAR is following a game English officials have been in charge of it? For a major country in the game and the founding fathers of football our officials are embarrassingly shite and not fit for purpose, they must be a complete laughing stock
Oliver was spectacular yesterday based on all metricsI have said it all along my problem isn't with VAR it is with the inept people using it as well as the rules introduced - For clear and obvious errors no one would have an issue with it, for those who watched the L2 play off final last month, where a Crewe player made the most obvious dive and actually managed to dupe the referee into awarding a penalty, VAR stepped in and corrected it and that was great because if Crewe had been given that penalty it would have been an absolute travesty! Did you not see the defender lift his arm to attempt to stop the crossYup, agree.
Nothing wrong with the VAR system at all, if they used it properly.
When it was brought in, it wasn't brought in to see if a toenail stuck out
If they used it for the clear and obvious only, if would work so much better.
They need to still be quicker with it though. Nothing should be taking two mins to view.
I am glad the offside rule is changing. That will really help.
They need to change the ridiculous handball laws too. First and foremost in the thinking has to be whether or not it was accidental and to stop saying an arm isn't in a natural position when it clearly is
VAR can work. It's just not working at the moment and is a bit of a disaster, because of the way they implement and interpret things.
Only just saw the Anderson one for Denmark and thought it was very, very harshDid you not see the defender lift his arm to attempt to stop the cross
I’ll ask another, what happens if that’s not given in the studio and shearer and lineker and Twitter
I think exactly the same just opposite
We didn't have to completely destroy the whole spirit of the game for that thoughI have said it all along my problem isn't with VAR it is with the inept people using it as well as the rules introduced - For clear and obvious errors no one would have an issue with it, for those who watched the L2 play off final last month, where a Crewe player made the most obvious dive and actually managed to dupe the referee into awarding a penalty, VAR stepped in and corrected it and that was great because if Crewe had been given that penalty it would have been an absolute travesty! UEFA have been impressed with both Oliver & Taylor during the Euros, hence them still getting the big games. They came out in praise of Taylor's decision to disallow the Dutch goal v France too yet he was widely chastised on here for it. The VAR though, yes, took too long to verify Taylor as correct but other than that they are working within the parameters set. In fact, they'd prefer we were even stricter with it. See the Georgia penalty vs Portugal, there's no way an English official gives that decision. Then again, is it any wonder we are here yet again discussing how shit VAR is following a game English officials have been in charge of it?
