There's loads to do away from the main stages which doesn't help if you're watching on tele of course.
The problem is record companies dont really develop artists anymore, it's get a talent show winner, write them couple of tunes, bang out an album then fuck them off, rinse and repeat.

The pool of ge genuine headline artists is much diminished.
Agree with this. Been many many times, and always loved it as there is so much to see and do. Used to find some great bands you’ll never hear of in the smaller tents, or Avalon cafe. And so much to do after the music stops too, sadly too old and infirm to go these days.

Paul Heatons solo is worth catching on iplayer for some old singalongs

Just got tickets to see him in December. All Beautiful South and Housemartins stuff. Last saw them on the Quench album tour so looking forward to it. Only £39 per ticket. He makes a point of making it affordable, no tiered pricing depending on block/seat/standing either.

Think it's also a case of a lot of acts that could headline just don't want to do festival shows these days. The number of stadium tours has increased over the years but alongside that the number of tours with elaborate stage and lighting setups that take days to prepare just don't work for doing festivals.

Aa lot of people on my socials this morning going on about how crap Glastonbury is. No one cares you tedious cunts, if you don't like it watch something else, they'd send a glass eye to sleep the boring bastards!

I bought Dexys Midnight Runners "searching for the young soul rebels" way back in 1980 and could relate to it from my younger days.
Watched them last night and thought it was pretentious codswallop...Kevin needs to slip off gracefully into retirement I think.

Used to love Coldplay when they first emerged on the scene and bought their first two albums.

For me, a band that truly sold their souls and now I am a bit embarrassed to say I ever did like them.

And what the hell was that awful thing they did with that K Pop band? 😱🤮

I get people still like them, but my daughter and I and another friend too, all used to like them, but now can't abide them at all.

A Rush of Blood to the Head is still a really good album imo, but yeah the weird dance/disco route they've taken since is pretty unbearable to listen to.

I bet they're probably more popular and well known now though globally, especially after doing a song with a K-Pop group

Yeah.

Each and every to their own. Shame, as I used to really rate them

Totally agree regarding Coldplay their first two albums were outstanding but surely there’s other bands who could headline?
It’s far too political now for me and wish artists would keep their views to themselves.
I saw idles on jools Holland the other week and thought yee their good !!

So do we still fancy the Swiss in the next round, if we get through of course, a tactical exit might be wise

Watched Last Dinner Party this afternoon, they were very good. Also saw some of Cyndi Lauper & she looked lost on the stage. I saw her live at Shepherd's Bush Empire in the late 90s and she was brilliant in a smaller venue

I love Idles and their music just develops and develops with every record. Always pushing themselves to try something new and inventive.

Love their new single, Pop, Pop, Pop.

Watched a few bits last night, and had no envy of anyone there unlike most years.

Watch the 'secret' Kasabian slot earlier and it was the first time I wanted to be there. They were excellent. Not seen much more around the footy today though. Will catch up over the next week

The Streets were very good.

Mike Skinner is mental, but he’s fun to watch. I bet his security did not have an enjoyable 20/30 minutes!

Been watching the Keane set and the crowd seemed a bit shit at times. Really had to work hard to get them going, but seemed to get there in the end. Not sure about the sound either, IOW festival came across a lot better.

People try so hard to hate Coldplay. So many class songs and they’re absolutely incredible live. Come at me you boring bastards :)

Used to really like them.

Their downhill slide into mediocrity and safeness has been incredible though, in my humble opinion.

And there are so many people who feel the same.

In fairness, I think they did develop a new audience through the change they made, but I do now find them incredibly bland and the first time I heard that K-pop collaboration, I thought, what the f*ck have you done to yourselves. I think it is a truly dreadful record. Shocker. 🫣😱

LCD Soundsystem so good, definitely on my list to see. Thought I'd missed my chance when they broke up. So tight and what a voice.
Going to try and catch them on iPlayer. Will catch Idles too. Also, probably, The Last Dinner Party, Mount Kimbie, Kim Gordon, Big Special and definitely, Mary in the Junkyard, as I think Ghost is an amazing song.

Oh and Fat Dog, who I really love and am going to see in November. 😍

I don’t know what it is exactly about The Idles, I feel like I should like them but I don’t.
i saw them a couple of years back. During the gig the lead singer angrily read out a bad review they’d received which described them as derivative, I think I agreed with it.
I was irritated this time by him shouting out “fuck the king” or something. Like an angry 6th former!

I watched Coldplay last night. I’ve never liked them and haven’t kept up with their music. Quite a show, though I think they were shite and Chris Martin strikes me as being an arse!

And so ends my Sunday moan. I do enjoy stuff, honest.
