Yeah, with the current system we’re asking defenders to have ninja like reflexes to move their natural running positioned hand out of the way of a ball blasted towards them.

I would just urge you to watch the video clip again, Pete.

The appeals from the German players are not at all animated and seem to just be in some sort of small hope, looking at them.

The law needs to be changed.

The closeness of the player to the ball has to be a factor too. If they have no time to react etc

Yep, all reports point towards just Mainoo for Gallagher, despite Foden missing a few days (and will naturally be physically and mentally tired) and Trippier clearly not fully fit. Plus players like Kane and Bellingham looked shattered.

It was always optimistic he’d willingly drop any of Bellingham/Saka/Kane/Foden.

However, Southgate isn’t an idiot and whatever you think of him, he’s got us to the late stages of several tournaments. Let’s hope him and the players turn it on from today.

His hand was out from his body, and was moving towards the ball. However, that was due to momentum rather than deliberate. A penalty was harsh. However I think Germany not getting anything would also not have been fair. An indirect free kick would have been fair IMO.

Someone else mentioned about all contact with hand is a handball and I have no problem with that as it creates clarity, as long as the punishment is not severe. A penalty is far too much so say it's a free kick, even in the area. If it's deliberate send the player off as extra punishment.

This offside rule has to change, the decision below is technically right with modern technology but for all intents and purposes this is two players standing side by side. Doesn’t seem in the spirit of the game to rule goals out for a boot size up.

My issue isn't with Mainoo, but the other 10 that have started all 4 games now. Palmer did more in 20 mins than Saka has done all tournament. Bellingham is an amazing footballer but has had 1 good 30 mins in 3 games. Kane has been poor every game.

He's picking players on reputation not on form.
