2 daughters and his wife killed yesterday , by a man believed to have used a crossbow in their family home , cannot think of much worse if I'm honest

If that happened to me I genuinely think I would commit the rest of my life to hunting down the guy that did it and ensure the worst possible outcome for him.

Can't imagine what John Hunt is going through though really, as it's so uncomprehendable and fucking scary to say the least.

There is another sister too. What a horrific thing to happen in any family.

And that's why in all liklihood he'll internalise his rage and try to carry on while carrying unbearable pain because he'll want to get her through this the best he can and be there for her. That's what being parent is about.
My heart goes out to the pair of them.
I see the scumbag that did it has a brother doing a long sentence for deliberately running someone over, nice family.

It's brutal. Somehow using a crossbow which involves loading and repeating the process twice more is far far worse than firing a gun, which is bad enough. Those poor women must have gone through hell..
He won't get justice. He should die slowly and in agony.

What the fuck, it's madness.

I saw something about "banning crossbows". Surely it isn't legal to have them already?

Hope he gets one through his bollocks and has to live with it in there while he slowly dies.

Yeah, it's a bit mad that people do have crossbows anyway isn't it? 🤷

Apparently anyone over 18 can buy one

Nothing like this but my daughter (14) has had some issues with her ex not letting go and moving on. Thankfully her new bf is considerable harder than her old one so he wouldn’t dare do anything. But concerning how there’s been no support for her, in fact she’s got in trouble for telling him to back off or getting her bf to. For me it’s the first signs of a young man who needs serious reeducation in how to deal with relationships but there’s nothing in place to do that.

Wow, all that at 14???

Mine is 15 and not had those issues yet but I dread to think.

Schools are doing a bit more about "healthy relationships" nowadays but not really enough. :(

Women are being terrorised by a handful of violent men.
Perhaps we should reclassify them as terrorists and target their enablers and groomers online.
Yes, the likes of Andrew Tate.

It should be as impossible to employ such a person as it would be to recruit a terrorist sympathiser. And young people should be told this - as others have said - education.

What happened to those laws that came in? Wasn't it where a woman could check with the police if a bloke has history or something like that?

NB It is illegal to be in possession of a crossbow in a public place ... as it is to murder someone ... but as mentioned earlier, it isn't illegal to buy or own one.

Think it's a big fear. To a degree you can control your child's upbringing, you can't necessarily control who they go out with and if they're a bastard

He was a nice enough boy until the breakup. It’s not always easy to tell TBF. I’m sure the girl who’s family was killed didn’t think he’d do that either.

I think all you can do is more intervention once someone shows signs. But having been on the end of a false abuse claim I’m also weary about handing people more power to mess with their ex’s life.

Such a shitty topic with no clear answers really. But like other violent crime it does feel like something you could make inroads with with a concerted effort. There’s evidence to suggest it’s a tiny percentage responsible for most violent crime:

Yeah I get that. Guess the reverse fear is you're parent to a kid who takes a breakup *really* badly!

How much do you even know? I doubt he’s going home telling Mum he threatened to hit his ex today.

Even mates it’s hard to know sometimes. All you can really do is trust women but then women are human and also take breakups badly and want to hurt their ex in other, less physical ways.

What do you mean her new boyfriend is " harder" . Is he going to put the frighteners on the old boyfriend ? Sounds like a quick fix but might make things worse .
As for her getting no support , that comes from family surely ? Or is this something at school ?
I don't mean to sound unsympathetic but stuff like this is a hornets nest .
