As I said

Southgate did fantastic last night and it was for me his best England result as manager .. I hope we win the lot , would be good for the country

If we manage to beat Spain, would you keep him in charge for the World Cup? 😂

You’d take trophies over glamorous football.

They do not need to be mutually exclusive do they? Playing painfully boring football brought us to the edge of elimination
twice.

Hypothetically though. Nobody gives a shit how this tourno went at this point, we’re in the final. And we’d take it again, deep down. Despite how enraged I’ve been at times.

The one thing that I have never understood is the people who have a vitriolic hatred towards Southgate. I was pretty pissed off with him earlier on in the tournament when we were struggling and things looked a bit lost but I'll always love him as a bloke and love what he has done in his time managing England.

I do feel bad when I listen to this though , one thing I can't question Southgate on is his love for his country , even as a player you could tell he loved playing for England

Yeah, he’s a top bloke who has brought a great culture to the England camps again. I do think he might’ve taken some of the frustrations/criticism too personally though. Pundits etc querying tactics or certain players, it’s their job. The stuff in the papers didn’t ever feel overly personal like with various other managers of the past

The idiots who threw pints at him should ashamed but hopefully he appreciates a handful of drunken twats are a tiny tiny minority

Throwing things at the manager and players is never excusable, but the criticism definitely was. It was dreadful, dreadful football that risked our place in the tournament more than once and for no good reason either with the players available.

As above though, this is now an irrelevance and one great performance will land us the trophy. To do so on German soil would be one heck of a redemption arc

Going around in circles here, but the whole problem is saying ‘yeah but we got away with it so it’s fine’. The law of averages will always catch up with consistently poor performances. If Bellingham doesn’t find his piece of brilliance against Slovakia it would have been a very ignominious end compared to the potentially glorious one awaiting on Sunday.

Have to give Southgate credit for that win - we played some good football, especially first half. Foden started to look like his Man City alter-ego. Only player I was disappointed with was Kane, who just isn't doing what we need him to do and we've got no option at CF cos he's never there.

Yes he has been by far the best Englsnd manager in my lifetime. I think some people don't remember how poor and unsuccessful we have been since 1966.

Not sure the Germans would that be bothered. It’s one of the more one way rivalries.

He got dogs abuse from all quarters, but always maintained a quiet sense of dignity, the guy deserves total respect.

He's been the most successful England manager since 1966! Its not always prety to watch. but hes found a way to progress in tournaments.

I'd love England to win on Sunday if only for Southgate to ram the taunts down the throats of the haters.

How I wish the pathetic FA had chosen Brian Clough as the England manager! Things could have been so different!

I probably would do if I was him. Weirdly, it’ll probably be something of a poisoned chalice.
I think it is a really difficult job and a largely thankless task. Most managers have not been able to cope with the pressure.

He will quit at the top and his successor will do well to emulate his success.

In need of a ticket for the final, does anyone have any advice for getting a ticket out there?

Ticombo, looking at €1,500 per ticket. I’m in two minds whether or not to find a tout in Berlin to do the transfers face-to-face.

I'm literally saying the same things over and over and over again.. like chatting to my missus

You're rewriting history to suit your bias. You don't like Southgate. That's all it is. Grendel pointed out that you can apply the same revisionist sh*te to any situation e.g. Italia '90 and Euro '96.

I've pointed out in the past you can do it with Robins - snuck into L2 playoffs, lucky with decisions vs. Notts County, won L1 without having to finish it, got to playoffs with low points total.

You say we weren't good to watch under him. I call bullshit*t. If you looked game by game vs. other England managers at tournaments I'm confident it'd be no different, probably better.

He's not a Lad. I genuinely think that's all it is. He's an articulate bloke who looks after himself. As a mass, we like TalkSport; fat drunks who just say things. I hope he wins it and tells us all to f*ck off.

Completely disagree , I'd just end up re writing all the things I've wrote already to explain why .

I agree Southgate is a good bloke , It's nothing to do with how he speaks as to why people don't like him .

Ironically grendel struggles to give mark robins any credit so it's a bit rich he should be shocked people don't like Southgate ball

And he's already in talks to stay according to media this morning
Not sure on that

What if we do another "Italy?"

I think they need to wait until after Sunday.

We were just 86 seconds away from going out of the competition in total humiliation and if we put in an awful performance on Sunday, it's not going to look great is it.

I think we can lose on Sunday and they still offer him a new contract, but that would need to come in tandem with a decent performance on the pitch That needs to be there, even in defeat, to allow us to move forwards.

It was completely the wrong tactics against Italy in the last final, so we just can't do the same thing again this time out too.

I would wait until after Sunday

Who can forget the 0-0 thrillers against Algeria and Nigeria in the World Cup? Or the stoppage time collapse against France in 2004.

2018 being an exception (Germany and Argentina underperforming in the groups), we have earned ‘easy’ sides of the draws because we won the group every time. Even in 2021, Denmark were a Top 10 ranked team in the world.

100% agree, it’s all revisionist and completely subjective saying international football was gone down in calibre. Personally, I disagree with that notion.

One thing that is seemingly being forgotten, is how easy our opponents have been to get this far.

I mean at this point who cares, you get behind the team. However, beating a shit Netherlands team in injury time, an average Swiss team on penalties, and also Slovakia in extra time following some underwhelming group games isn't really something I would regard as particularly impressive. We should be winning those games, we've just done it by the skin of our teeth.

Again though, I don't really care. If we somehow beat Spain then it certainly doesn't matter either.

Yeah, that's about it.

However you try and put it across and whatever stats you produce, we should have put in much, much better performances against at least one of those sides.

Also have to wonder in those stats, in how games did we not have a shot on target until pretty much the end of the game?

On Sunday, it's not going to matter much at all is it, should we be victorious. The object is to win the competition. Do that and all will be forgiven and forgotten.

Anyway, I hear Southgate is NOT staying on and has already tried his hand at a new position in the German police force.
