The pricetag of Sanches could've just been too steep. The initial reports were quoting £4m and that's more than we paid for Rudoni who is less of a risk.
If we were going to spend the money quoted on Stemenic then I'm sure we'd spend that amount on Bernede or Sanches to get a deal over the line, Bernede looks good tbf! Just hope it happens.

Correct, we have 5 CMs to cover 3 positions and to be honest, I’m not sure Allen is up to the required standard. Sheaf and Torp have had their issues with injuries so we need that depth.

Yes, Lati is there for cover too, but he’s covering CB and RB where there isn’t as much depth.
Premier league quality, surely we upgrade when we can.

I like Jamie Allen I really do, but I'd happily let him go if we could get Bernede in, if he's been on the books of PSG and Salzburg then he can't be half bad, I'd be pleased with this signing if it happens.

How far our interest in Sanches went I don't know but could it be we were looking at Sanches then Bernede came up and we switched? Who knows but it's refreshing to see the calibre of players we're linked with or looking at compared to many seasons ago.
Some one is definitely on their way out if we bring another CM in.
Allen and Palmer arnt first choices here, and I don't think they will be happy to sit on the Bench for a whole season.

EMC can play AM as can Torp and Rudoni.
And Sheaf, Eccles and Lats can cover the other midfield positions, and then there's the youngsters looking to stake a claim.

So Palmer and Allen are struggling for minutes as it is, without bringing another player in

And we're still short of a striker and RB, so CM isn't a priority imo.

Need a @Tea & Busquets analysis on this one
A player that was destined for the top in his past, hasn’t quite gone to plan due to his lengthy injury history, however he hasn’t been injured since he’s joined his new club Lausanne and has been one of their most solid and important players. A very rock in the midfield type player, he’s not gonna get you goals but is quite decent at passing and dribble, and a great tackler. Quite ironically he’s somewhere in the 90th percentile for games played, played every game for them last season and was only subbed out 4 times. Management clearly see something in him.

Sounds like he’d be a quality addition should there be any truth to this

There's no good YouTube compilation on him but from the scattered highlights I found it seems like he's a good one-touch passer under pressure which is exactly what we need in midfield. I love midfielders who can get the ball while being pressed and not panic.

According to FotMob he was one of the best players in that entire league last season.

Palmer is frustrating, one game hes quality then next two games average, I got annoyed with him lost possession alot, on the floor and spent time complaining to the ref, times he could play a simple pass which was all that was needed yet tried to do too much, I'm all for our players expressing themselves and showcasing their abilities but at the correct times.

Allen is a good player but again won't start alot of games, he'll l only be for squad depth, but if I had to choose one to stay it'll be Palmer because he can produce moments of magic, he's got that in his locker just isn't consistent enough.

We do need a striker and RB and I think MR is happy to go with Bidders and JDS at LB this season so we won't be getting a LB in, JDS has to give so much more this season and I hope he does and proves me wrong.

Have always been a fan of Palmer but I think of someone comes in he is the most likely to be moved on. I also think Allen can give slightly more options as a squad player.

We've got 6 plus Latibeaudiere and Andrews and Burroughs.

Eccles, Sheaf, Rudoni, Torp, Allen and Palmer.

I really don't get why we would need another CM. If we do they need to be much better than what we already have in my view or it's a waste of money.

We need an upgrade in the Centre midfield department if we want to finish in the upper echelons of this league, it’s quite simple

Palmer is not a CM neither is Lati and I wouldn’t want Burroughs or Andrews playing there.
If we have a 3 man midfield I want more than 5

Allen has been a good signing but when other signings come in his role will become very limited. Im not sure he would want that or the club will let it happen. At the minute Allen will be in 1st team squads but got a feeling his time at the club is coming to an end. He is not alone in this situation, a few more im sure are going to be allowed to find new clubs once we get targets in.

But that is true of any part of our team. Midfield is probably our strongest position in terms of depth.

Apart from keeper and left back, we are strong in terms of first choice and deoth throughout the team. What we lack though anywhere in the team is an outstanding player like Hamer or Gyokeres. I see little point in buying more midfielders in particular unless they are truly outstanding. We will have a bloated and expensive squad on contracts which we can't get out of. Just look at the keeper and left back situation to see where that gets you.

How would our team look, if for arguments sake the following players are injured/suspended:

Sheaf
Torp
MVE
Thomas/Kitching

I’ve selected these players because they’ve all had issues with injuries/suspensions. All of sudden we’re looking short.

Andrews will not be a first team player, Allen is not a decent role player, nothing more and he will be gone this time next year.

A point I think you’re missing Herts is that the goal is Premiership promotion and then survival. That gulf is massive, we need to add more quality to get there and the games against the top teams in this league highlighted the gap in quality.

Pragmatically, we also need to plan for a future without Ben Sheaf because if we don’t look like going up in Jan, he’ll actively want a move imo.

If we are playing three midfielders Palmer is in contention for one of those roles. He plays defensive midfield for Jamaica.
