Fair play to Sultana, I thought she might be a thorn in Starmers side but I didn't expect it this early into his tenure.
Feel a bit guilty for not voting for her now.

He is a complete liar on a similar level to Boris Johnson. What do you reckon @PVA

Was that in the manifesto?

I don't agree with it whatsoever.

But it's not like it was put in the manifesto then pulled 5 minutes later.

He's clearly not in the same ballpark as that appalling fat wanker Johnson.

Edit: Grendel 'laughed' within about 1 minute so I'm comfortable my answer is on the money.

IMO makes him look weak and scared of the left of his own party.

Every party always has the handful that don't vote in line with the party and its rarely a problem unless its a major issue or causes a vote to be lost. Does he really need to do this for a vote that he's won by 260?

Far from making him look strong it makes him look exactly the same as when Johnson got rid of any dissenting voices.

He's not even certain on the policy himself, look at posts earlier in the thread where there was talk of an incoming u-turn because of comments he'd made.

Can't believe we're at a point in politics where Labour MPs are getting suspected for voting against chid poverty.

Still at least he's managed to get Sir Kid Starver to be the top trend in the UK.

I don't know what this is supposed to achieve? Even the centrist on my twitter feed are slamming this as well as Labour MPs who have put out statements today saying they were against the cap but haven't voted against it.

No true labour party would vote to keep 400 000 children in poverty and suspend MPs that didn't want to vote like that with them .

They are red tied tories

Hang on.

People do realise this wasn't actually a vote on removing the two child limit. Right?

This is going to be a long 4 years when people don't even know what they're getting their knickers in a twist about.

Not sure how that makes it better. Most people know how amendments to the Kings Speech work.

Don't think that many people thought if Starmer lost the vote, which is to all intents and purposes impossible with the majority he has, the cap would be removed tomorrow.

Said it before. He needs to learn the difference between governing and campaigning. Can’t do this for four years.

The cap will be removed at some point (hopefully soon), I'm sure of it.

I just don't see why people are getting bent out of shape because something that wasn't in the manifesto wasn't in the Kings Speech.

This amendment and vote means nothing really, it's all show

But isn't that kind of the point? He's already on the ropes with it to the point they're started saying they won't rule out scrapping it in the future. Why suspend MPs over this? It just puts a bigger spotlight on an issue he's already struggling with.

If those 7 MPs had voted and nothing had been done it wouldn't have made a ripple, now its all over socials with Sir Kid Starver the top trend, how does that benefit him?

He had to suspend them for voting against the Kings Speech, but the way the whole thing has been handled has been a shambles. It really should have been accounted for from the start. It wasn’t exactly an unknown policy.

What's the financial difference between a healthy population of Children when set against ready made imports , substantial I'd expect?

Not a good look. I understand he wants to look like he's in charge and will be tough but seems overly draconian and against uniting the party.

Very disappointed by his reaction.

I remember listening to an economics podcast where they were discussing how the drop out rate for economics degrees was high compared to other courses and the general consensus was that the more you study economics the more apparent it becomes that its all smoke and mirrors

And that was from a bunch of economists!
I can personally attest to this. Became very disillusioned with accounting and economics as the more I learned the less it made sense. I finished the degree even though I really wasn't enjoying the final year and lasted a few years in accounting before I just had to get out. What was most disappointing was that I felt at degree level there would be more chance to discuss and debate, but if anything it felt like dissenting from the agreed orthodoxy was tantamount totreason. I had more constructive arguments with my GCSE and A level teachers on the subject. Everything seems to be based on a foundation of sand and 'vibes' masked with some complicated looking maths.

Government Spending is created out of taxation or borrowing. Printing more money leads to inflation.
Day to day spending largely yes. But borrowing is problematic as you need to then service the interest (in theory, but no country seems to care about getting into more and more debt).

For major infrastructure, printing for growth needs to be considered for the benefits and also compare the inflationary and potential devaluation of the currency against other forms of finance.

As I've said before, it's not something you want to be doing all the time, but at the same time you don't want to dismiss it completely. That idea is simplistic and outdated.

So I totally agree. But surely party loyalty is essential at this stage? Id like to see it introduced in the next few months, before the suspended mps come back.

Exactly. They had to be suspended really. You can't win an election and then vote against your party/manifesto 5 minutes later at the first chance you get. The Corbynites have set their stall out early.

As you say, I expect the cap to be lifted at some point, hopefully very soon.
