It does baffle me in countries like ours where we’ve long given up on not accepting homelessness.

Im a big fan of UBI but there’s very little evidence of its efficacy.

If you're suggesting just giving it to homeless people then it's not universal.

If you do it as a negative income tax it’s not given equally to everyone. It’s basically a minimum income guarantee.

That's fairer. I've always felt the personal allowance should be set at the level at which a person can afford rent/mortgage, energy and food/clothing as why should you be paying tax if you can't afford what I deem to be basics.
Of course others would argue that it basically encourages people to not work. Why work numerous hours for 16k a yr when you could do no work and get exactly the same?

Think he has to. He’s underestimated the depth of feeling on the topic, and his argument to not afford it is flimsy at best considering he’s happy to essentially issue blank cheques to Ukraine.Is he going to scrap the cap on child benefits as well?
Not sure where the depth of feelings from. For all the noise even a majority of Labour voters support the policy
