Yep. Your Hull's and Cardiff's midweek in bleak January are the real tests. Always have 0-0 or a sneaky 1-0 loss in them

After dominating for 90 minutes and conceding a defensive howler in the 87th minute. Lovely.

Rudi was playing a kind of hybrid 10/8 role and it seemed like Eccles and Allen both at time took turns in being the deeper midfielder

Like the look of Rudi, works hard get stuck in and is really creative, EMC is gonna be a beast for us, get a decent back up striker and competitive midfielder in and we go to go I feel, special mention to binks aswell thought he looked solid from the get go. Can't wait for this season now....PUSB

Binks looks like he could be the first choice LCB

Let's leave the team selection to Robins and his team and trust him . Robins has always asked for more depth to the squad and now he has it.

Does he have it? Not sure we do have much depth with our CMs, STs or RBs tbh. Few people have said how we were lacking without Sheaf and how Eccles didn’t play as well without Sheaf, so I feel like we could do with another CDM type. Probably need better than Obikwu if we’re to give Simms a rest now and again, and same for Van Ewijk as a lot of people said Burroughs wasn’t good enough the other day. We’re literally a couple of players away from having a complete quality squad, I hope we manage to get them in by the end of the window.

Thought the pitch was slow last night, beautiful to see it looking so good ! Weather affected maybe?

Racking my brains on my morning shift...

Is Ashley Young the only active footballer left who played at Highfield Road?
I believe Dean Lewington is still going at the age of 40 with MK Dons, fairly sure he played against us for the old Wimbledon!

If all of the current squad are fit there will be first team standard players not making the bench

You wanted 5 players the other day. We have 5 CM's at the moment

I’m not talking about all of the squad though, just the ST, CM and RB positions. We don’t have a player similar to Sheaf or Van Ewijk and Obikwu maybe needs more time to develop.

Yes but 2 of those are Palmer and Allen, and whilst Allen apparently had a great game last night we didn’t see him play consistently well last season (when he did play). I just worry that if we get a serious injury to Sheaf/Eccles/Torp then we’ll be lacking defensively and creatively in midfield.

Did you watch last night?

Using last year as a stick to measure Allen with is ridiculous given how disruptive it was. He didn't have a pre season

Let's hope we handle the more physical Championship a bit better than last year.
I think EMC can handle himself, not sure about Rudoni but he is a tall lad.
Saka will still be a target for roughing up so we need to be on it as a team and at the ref and the captain being vocal.

You gained all this insight from not watching the game last night ?

Not correct, he was on their books but did not play in either game at Highfield Rd according to this:

No, wish I’d gone now, but that’s why I said “apparently”. Judging from comments on here he had a great game but my point being he has had some really decent games and some really off games in the past. I’d rather judge him on all of the games he played last season than one pre-season game against Everton tbh.

I’ve gained it from the comments that people have said on here, hence why I said “a few people have said…”

The point about depth stands regardless of last night because it’s not down to how well certain players play, it’s about what happens to the team if we get injuries or key players need rotating. We haven’t got a dedicated secondary RB for instance, or a secondary Sheaf type player, and is Obikwu even up to this level as an alternative to Simms?

He didn't watch it , he said as much last night . Weird how he can still have an opinion on a player ?

I don’t think missing one pre-season game means anyone’s opinion on a player is suddenly invalid. I said I can’t comment on Allen’s performance myself but judging on previous games from last season I don’t think he’s consistent enough. Maybe he’s suddenly turned a corner but none of us can know that for certain.

Utter tripe again "suddenly turned a corner" ? Allen has always been a reliable member of the squad and one that Robins sings the praises of

Shame the Roma game is being played behind closed doors, would have liked to have seen that match up. Strange it isn't, but maybe it's just reserves?

Seems as though we'll be alright with the 6 midfielders - Sheaf, Eccles, Allen, Torp, Rudoni, Palmer - that's if Palmer is staying, and as long as we have at lest one of Sheaf or Eccles available at all times to do the work in front of the back 4. Up top we have Wright to replace Simms, and Tavares/Obikwu if push comes to shove - or we can just change formation. Maybe just a RB if Burroughs isn't going to be that second option this season?

“Turned a corner” based on last season’s performances which people say I shouldn’t base my opinions on. He wasn’t good enough last season, maybe he’s improved drastically on that but I personally don’t think one pre-season game is enough to say. Don’t dislike the guy, I just want us to be the absolute best we can possibly be 🤷🏻‍♂️
