We won a league using 352

We stayed up in championship first time of asking with 352

We made playoff final with 353m

It emphatically doesn't work?!!!!!?
Football has moved on from it. Without Hamer and a one man battering ram in Gyokeres, when we played it last season we ended up with 8 defensive players sitting deep and 3 others being asked to do all the work. Impotent going forward and wasn't even solid defensively either.

That and we have spent considerable money on wide attacking players who wouldn't have a place in such a system. A variant of 4-4-2 allows us to play 2 up front while playing to the strengths of how we've recruited

Football has moved on???? What the fuck

Inter Milan just won the scudetto and year before made cL final using 352

Personnel is a better reason like danceswithhorses mentioned but the point of using the friendly to see if it can work this year or not

Crazy to say the formation is just broken though

For us it's broken and simply doesn't work with the players we have. Last season football generally did move away from it and I seem to remember reading something about the very few Championship teams that did stick with it performing poorly.

We have recruited a bunch of wingers and spent last season converting Wright into a wide attacking player. Why would it make any sense to switch to a system that doesn't use wingers?

Last season Robins deployed different formations. It's a strength and keeps the opposition guessing. Good managers are flexible and use more than one approach.

It's good to see Mike Bassett is going strong though.

Stop passing around at the back, Forward, Shoot!

100%

Plan B and plan C are required. How many times has it not been working and we've kept formation and just replaced a player only for the same problems to persist

We have the personnel this season to switch to 3-5-2 if we need to. BTA running off Simms is far more effective than Godden. Rudoni and Torp will get forward to support and MVE, Bidwell and Dasilva are all more than capable of playing wing back

I’ve been sat in A&E for the last 3 hours with my eldest, who may or may not have broken a bone.

When my partner joked I might miss the game I laughed, but at this rate who knows! I’ve already written off the pre game pub lunch, which if we play 3-5-2 will likely be the highlight of the afternoon.*

*this intentional hyperbole.

Werder Bremen play 352 so are we simply experimenting to match what the opposition is playing to ensure we aren't out muscled in midfield

What do you do with EMC, Wright and Saka?

Looks like this is a mix of u21,u19 and first team for them

Divided into two teams, all Werderans who have traveled with them are to get a lot of time today. In the first game, Ole Werner sends the following eleven on the grass:

Werder starting line-up: Backhaus - Deman, Bittencourt, Njinmah, Grüll, Hansen-Aarøen, Malatini, Alvero, Salifou, Opitz and Röcker.

From the U23 and U19 are Spyros Angelidis, Cimo Röcker, Levi Wagner, Wesley Adeh, Joel Imasuen and Yuval Ranon.

Skelly Alvero, Leonardo Bittencourt, Marco Grüll and Justin Njinmah are all very good players. Fair play to our youngsters

Do you know what our team is in this match?

Cant find the lineup but it looks like a few who have featured in pre season are in there so won't be featuring this afternoon.

Bedwetting over us playing wingbacks is hilarious.

we’ve signed a keeper who can sweep and that will help the defence in that formation. We have a brand new midfielder in Rudoni who can play a hybrid between a CM and CAM, last year we played it with Palmer at CAM doing fuck all ffs. We’re linked to an emphatic CM who will be able to play there. We’ve just signed BTA who can play upfront who people were bedwetting about because they didn’t think he would get enough minutes in a 433.

this isn’t fifa. You don’t choose a formation and are rigid to it. If we are 2-0 in a game and want to bring JDS on etc we can switch to the back 5 and suit these players coming on.
