Was going to try and find a stream for this but the power went down where I am, so great start to the season for me
Good goal though, excellent from Palmer, exactly want you want to see from him and great take by Simms.
Can one of the more sensible posters tell me how we played so I don't have to go through the thread trying to figure it out.

In moments we were decent.

Gave up a few chances first half being a little too open, didn’t play badly and better than at Stoke, but also didn’t create as many clear cut opportunities as Bristol.

We were slightly better second half then improved a lot with the changes.

Nothing to get excited about but not doom and gloom.

Edit - I’m not a sensible poster though.

It's good to get a win anyway after the opening day crap. Not like it way an easy tie either so we'll take it and hope it kicks us on.

Why are people saying we switched to 4-4-2 when we didn’t. We aren’t going to play that formation. Our midfield is getting overrun with three in there so taking a man out would be suicidal.

Some of you really have no clue what you are talking about

Thought Wilson had his best game since the play off final season and that was one of Dasilva's better performances

Kitching and Lati my other standouts as well
Lati was better at centre half, at right back he was terrible. He kept cutting inside and then panicking on the ball. When he went to centre half he was much better than what Thomas was. In fact I’d drop Thomas, he’s been awful in both games

Lol , I know what you mean but on current form where do we go ?
I keep hearing Thomas-Asante can't start against Oxford but he was still chasing everything down even in injury time

I would be surprised if he does start - would indicate he is part machine!

The way he was pressing in injury time shows he is a great athlete, but it doesn’t indicate how his body recovers in-between games.

Much greater risk of injury if he starts and plays the obligatory 60 mins. I think he’s going to be a pretty important player for us so I imagine he will come on for the last 30. He covered a lot of ground.

At times it was, but it wasn't a rigid formation.
Asante was dropping into the midfield to make it a 5 but was up alongside Simms required.
Totally agree about having just two in centre mid, I'd be very concerned.

I think Asante swapped positions with Palmer briefly but when Simms scored Palmer was in the 10 position with Asante on the left. Mind you if you have a 10 in the team it needs to be fluid. When he drifts wide, the wide player needs to be inside supporting the central striker else he becomes totally isolated

Similar to other posters, I thought last night was improved albeit against a second string Brizzle side.

Wilson was excellent in goal and made some good saves to keep the score level.

Lati, Kitching and Da Silva all had decent enough games coming in for their first starts.

Torp was better, his passing was better, but what I think some on this forum aren’t or choosing not to recognise is that we are playing Torp as a six right now and his preference is an eight or a ten. Eccles was also ok.

Palmer was okay, but frustrating at times.

BTA was MOTM IMO he was a constant threat and looked our main threat for a lot of the game, also had a goal ruled out for offside.

Haji was okay also, not setting world alight and Tavares didn’t look strong enough - which is a common problem with him.

Rudoni and Simms did good when coming on, was disappointed with Allen and Sakamoto.

Allen needs replacing, it keeps being said, but he’s not at the level and he’s too weak, there was one instance last night where he gave the ball away all by his self and then looked around at his team mates to question where everyone else. Sakamoto just couldn’t seem to make a pass last night when he came on which was frustrating.

For squad depth...as it was our biggest problem last season. He aint bad but he's not Championship quality either, just a body that can at least fit into the formation unlike Palmer. Same with Tavares.

Same talk used last season about Wilson. Yet he got MotM on here for last nights performance.

Our fans are so quick to bin players who don't meet their personal expectations.

Pretty bang average game and glad Robins called that out. Our midfield without Sheaf looks weak. It’s without a doubt our top priority to get a CM through the door this window.

Too conservative in possession, we’ve got bags of pace which we’re often not using.

Just got in from the game and hoping we get a London/surrounding area for the next round!

Missing sheaf obviously but I see the combination of players picked /formation as the issue in first couple of games

Last night having Torp and palmer both playing with a front three inc Taveres meant we were getting overrun. Against Stoke, without Eccles or sheaf nobody screened the defence. Friday I’d go for Torp, Rudoni and Eccles. Saka tracks back well so that also helps make us more solid

Agree we need to be braver and move the ball quicker. Just keep feeding the wide men earlier and we’ll be a dangerous team…currently wasting our biggest threat

It was in response to a claim he played well though. He spent 2/3 of the game at RB and was awful, basically cancelling out any attacking impetus we had when he got the ball. He is ok as a back up CB but thats about it right now. We clearly need another specialist RB
Totally agree

I think Wilson deserves praise for that performance. Was solid and the most composed I've seen him for a long time.
Simms looked a quality player. Shame no one else really stood out as quality. Palmer had the usual glimpse amongst the usual.
BTA is a real dynamo. Almost needs to steady and compose sometimes. But might well become a favourite.
Rudoni has promise but seems a little less demanding of the ball and effective than preseason.
Saka seems rusty.
Da Silva was decent but you always worry if he is targeted.
Allen like a pinball ball.

Palmer objectively does not fit into our current formation so what have I said that's wrong? I for one have always wanted Wilson to stay over Collins and I'm pretty sure GKs fit into every formation..

There was a stark difference when MVE came on at RB. However, Lati looked good at CB.

We definitely went to a 442 when the subs came on.

After we scored we immediately reverted back to 4321 though, so only had a couple of minutes in 442 and unfortunately it doesn't really show much of it in the highlights, this is the best I could find:

BTA and Simms up front. Palmer wide left and Saka on the right.

I was watching last night on a very non-HD stream with no commentary and assumed Torp was Eccles for much of the first half because he was the only one of the CMs running, tracking and getting stuck in. Only realised it was actually Torp at HT and Eccles was the one stinking up the gaff.

Makes some of the criticism look off the mark.
