Madsen having a medical at QPR apparently and that earlier tweet translates to sold not interest.

I think we had him a bit too early.
He came on for Brighton on Saturday against Everton. He was only on for a few minutes but looked good and scored a "goal" that looked OK but was very marginally ruled out by VAR.

Even with us he had *moments* that looked very classy. Ignoring how quick some of our fans were to write him off it the real problem was that he needed at least one season of development - playing regularly, starting, coming on as sub, but being involved in the team. Had he been from our youth at up it would have been a no-brainer investment. However we were forced to try and develop a loan player and the reward (for us) of any improvement in him simply wasn’t worth the risk of exposing him week-in week out to the championship.

We can’t afford Worrall and his wages. Both Burnley and SU are keeping tabs on him for their CBs that are outgoing.

Madsen, if we really wanted him he would choose us over QPR. So again we might have been interested but are we really making a move for him?

I think there will a couple of surprise signings not on anyone’s radar.

Pretty sure if it was a straight choice between us and QPR, any sane footballer who cared about their career would choose us. But then you've got to take wages into account, and maybe even location? And that's if we are even trying to sign him.

And even if the pot has runneth dry, then take a gamble it's not like we don't have sellable assets

The problem with gambles is they sometimes (often) don't pay off...

What we spend now we don't have next season or in Jan. I know you are an enthusiastic fan, just like myself. And if I'm being honest I'd like to add three more players to the squad. However, that is ignoring reality. The fact is, the buy low, sell high model which Doug appears to be using is far more sustainable than the "go for it" attitude of the 90s. How long did it take to recover from that? I think this season is our best chance of promotion for ages, so I completely get the desire to bring in the final pieces. But.... What if?

Not worth the gamble IMO. So we sell MVE, Simms, Sheaf and Wright . We bring in significant funds and go again. Being a solid championship side is great. Exciting league, chance of promotion, finer margins than the prem. It's really not that bad.

Remember where we were not so long ago... This is a dream by comparison

Surely a quality loan or two is the obvious answer. We're a good side. We play good football. We've got decent facilities. Great environment for a young player at a prem club to come and stake a claim.
Agree this seems like a good option on the face of it. Even with Doug's reporterd aversion to the loan market (which I understand to a point), we have still used it in his tenure.

I think there's a fine balance between cheaper permanent player (fee plus wages for the length of the contract) and more quality loan signing for a season (higher wages and no recoup in value).

If we can find the right one I'm all for it. Otherwise, if it's just for bodies, I'd keep a few academy players around. As I said, it's a tight call

If we have interest in a player and he picks someone else im happy, as i don't want anyone at the club not buying completely into what we are about. If Worrall and Madsen are genuine targets and don't come im sure Doug has others in mind. If they were targets then it could be we are after 1 perm and 1 loan which could still happen. What im sure will happen is players leaving either on loan or on a permanent basis.

Obikwu, Andrews, Dausch will be available for loans. And i would imagine Burroughs, Howley and Collins will be made available for loans or permanent moves away. Still time, still things to do , but i don't think Doug is sitting with his feet on his desk...

This ^ we had similar discussions last season and this is where I have landed.

I would love 2-3 more players in - but I wouldn't bet the farm on it - I wouldn't bet the farm on anything when you consider how close we came to the brink due to reckless spending.

It will be hard losing some of these players next summer if we're not promoted - but we know the funds received will be excellent and we also can have confidence that we will spend that money wisely - if it comes to it.

Jack Taylor from Ipswich? They’ve signed another midfielder today as well as Kalvin Phillips. Looked good whenever I’ve seen him play. Think he struggled to get in ahead of Morsy and Luongo last year but impressed when he did get in.

It’s about having the funds and we clearly don’t. Though had we not splurged on a goalkeeper, we might well have done.

Madsen looks fun but I’m not sure he was ever what we needed anyway. We need someone closer to the Sheaf mould than anything.

We’ve already got Torp, Allen and Eccles as that kind of player.

Agree. Wasn't sure about him based on the admittedly brief bits I saw of him on YouTube.

This is why the club don't say anything about players, admit or deny we don't officially comment. Its hard enough to get anything out the club when a player signs, never mind if its a rumored target.

Let the club do what its done over last few years because they have got a lot right with recruiting. I can see 2 in, 3 out, but not climbing the walls if that doesn't happen.

Annoying to get beaten by QPR to a player if indeed he was a real target.

We don't even know if we were seriously in for NM. As others have said, from limited clips seen and reading about his style he doesnt look like what we needed - we need that 6 CDM.

I hope things are going on and we have just stopped all leaks - perhaps burnt after stamenic.

Madsen - hope he does go to QPR. We need a holding midfielder. Worrall - never been that keen. We’ll get someone in, quite relieved it’s neither of these

100% - ask Swansea fans what Gyokeres was like for them and they’d have told you that you’re barmy if you believed he’d be a top Championship striker, let alone a top European one.

The Championship is a tough league.

He obviously gets his rumours off this thread so posting “hey look at this fake rumour I made to fool George” probably wasn’t the most sophisticated wheeze.
Haha yeah was thinking that. Should have posted it, when he fell for the bait, then revealed. This Smith lad is a proper ITK though, he saw through Saddles attempt a few months ago 🤪

With this whole 'we've ran out of money' thing, I'm not buying

Record ST + match ticket sales. Record shirt sales (the mark up per shirt sees the club get almost £20 profit per one ) higest attendances we've ever had, regularly, FA Cup run etc

And even if the pot has runneth dry, then take a gamble it's not like we don't have sellable assets

We all know at least one of our best players will be gone next year if we don't go up and for big money aswell

Haji, MVE, Simms we can demand 20million quite easily

Even Sheaf with 1 year left we can't get around 10 million

We have assets that we can cash in on, but he needs to have a real tilt at it this season for me

I seem to agree with every post you make Saddle, I’m standing firmly in the Bedwetters United camp 😂

Some people were saying we shouldn’t “bet the farm” on this season but I really don’t think spending £3-5 mil on a bit of quality in midfield is betting the farm tbh. We’ve got highly valuable assets in the 4 players you mentioned, sell any one of them next season and we easily pay back any investment on a midfielder from this season. One of the best shots we’ve ever had of reaching the prem, I don’t think we should potentially squander it because of slight overspending.

Not sure the auditors agree with that approach
