As I said a while back, there is interest in Palmer, and to keep your eyes on the outgoings. As temperamental as Palmer is, it wouldn't be wise to let him go without having something ready to go. Wage structure is important, he'd be at the higher end of that.
Makes sense . Club still have to be pragmatic in transfer activity

I think Mark Robins and Doug King are trying to build a castle over time, on a budget.

Our fans through impatience, want to build an overpriced Barratt's Home.

Fans talk about success and timescales, but most of the scale is imposed by fans.

I think that is partly true but the time frame was set by Doug …. Premier League within 5 years …

the issue is that some fans want it quicker than that !

Exactly. It's business at the end of the day, the short list would've been made end of last season. Who can we use to move on / make way for incomings. High earner.
They'd hold on to him till January if there wasn't something in the pipeline.
I totally get the fans frustrations but I'm also reassured we are being run in a professional manner .

Because we have had three windows to strengthen the midfield. I worry we will end up with an Ayari-type loan as a stop gap

I know I probably got the most “bedwetter of the season” nominations a few weeks ago, but I agree with Proc and Saddle that it’s very concerning that any potential CM and/or RB signings are going right down to the wire.

If the Palmer rumour is true then that’s even more worrying, we need a CM as it is, let alone if Palmer left on top of that. Our midfield has been poor for a little while now, it seriously needs strengthening, I think promotion hinges on it tbh.

Wouldn’t be letting Palmer go without a midfield replacement in my opinion

Yes obviously people are nervous. In an ideal world it wouldn't have come down to the last minute, but that's the business. Missed out on targets, but scouting and other options never stops flowing. If we want to be up there fighting for a spot then we have to move on those who are not consistent / committed enough.
Can be frustrating if we are doing it one by one, but I'd rather that than be reckless and end up with no assets.

There's no way MR would allow KP to leave unless it was to allow someone to replace him AND improve the squad.

I'd fully expect another 1 or maybe even 2 new faces by tomorrow evening.

But let's be honest if we are talking about recruiting rather than selling one of our better assets for peanuts, then it shows how far we've progressed under big Doug.

You reckon because we have something lined up we've fasttracked it? Otherwise MR would probably keep him until January at least as squad option.

It is brilliant that we can get carried away but that’s what we are doing.

All this talk of promo hinges on the next 24 hrs is nonsense.

Football success is mostly about financial clout. Not always, but mostly.

Right now the 3 relegated teams plus Leeds would all be seen as a stronger bet than us for promotion. Then there are other clubs who have recruited well this summer.

I really hope ewe can get promoted this season but the odds suggest we are showing our bias when we talk so definitively about our chances relying on a CDM coming in ……

The play offs would be another great season for us, IF we can achieve that.

am I the only one who thinks we are ok for signings. We haven’t lost one significant player. I wouldn’t even bat an eyelid if we didn’t sign anyone. Sheaf and torp in this league with Eccles as back up is decent.

even if we do have 2m or so in the pot what does that even get us? Nothing better than what we have. IMO
You been watching? Our midfield is like a piece of Swiss cheese without sheaf

That’s fine but our midfield is wank without Sheaf in it, and it’s not like Sheaf is known for staying fit all season. If Sheaf is out again then we’re relying on Eccles to be outstanding every game and for Torp to really step up to the plate, which obviously isn’t impossible, just not probable. Couple that with the fact that players will need rotating and resting, and the rotation being Palmer and Allen, it really doesn’t bode well.
