Those wanting a 5 at the back with all the attacking talent we have are absolutely barking.

We need to drop a few players that are underperforming definitely, but the biggest medicine we need at the moment is a kick up the arse. We have started slowly again and questions need to be asked, but playing a shite formation like that is not the answer.

which is a follow on from a poor transfer window

Love it when fans blame their own support on other factors.

We used to take the piss out of other clubs for doing the same.

Kicks up the arse are no longer allowed, these poor little lambs have to be counselled and wrapped in cotton wool, they are no longer able to ‘man up’ and get stuck in. Welcome to the new regime, as Boosh says treat people with kindness.
BTW, other clubs seem to have mentally and physically stronger players than us, is it a coincidence?
How much pressure is going to be placed on Sheaf when he comes back, needed someone in to play alongside him, not replace him.

Why the assumption that all of this has happened against Robins will and / or without his involvement. That’s certainly not the impression I’ve had when listening to him talk about the changes.

Do people really think Robins would have looked at the huge back room teams other clubs have and be thinking it’s so much better when he has to do everything himself?

Not sure I buy that idea.

I don’t think Robins will have wanted to lose Viveash and Lawrence.

No-one is saying yesterday was great. Everyone can see we could have done with a midfielder. But, for crying out loud, we’re 4 points from 4 games. Our best player is yet to play. From some of the bilge on here you’d think we’d had 4 straight losses. It’s not happy clapping - just need some balance.

So what's the answer Einstein, sack Robins or the coaching staff or the recruitment team , I'm genuinely interested in what you think we should do to address your worries
Our recruitment has to be questioned. We’ve had issues with the middle of the park for two seasons now and they haven’t been addressed. Whether through lack of trying or through being too ambitious, we have not bolstered where we need to.

Norwich are my local club and I know for a fact Kenny McLean was available this summer, exactly the type of player we need. Experience and know how, and is actually a decent CM.

The results aren’t the issue. It’s the degradation in our style of play, such that there is one.

Have not read whole thread (just 1st page), can't be arsed. We live in a very 'knee jerk response' society now. Overall the transfer window was good for us, it is not so long ago a key player would have been sold right at the end (ie Sheaf / MVE). Obviously the lack of a new defensive midfielder is disappointing (we were one short because of Kelly going anyway).

One key thing though: Bassette looks quality. Keep reading 'we didn't need to sign him' but if we are seriously looking to build long term success, investing in promising young strikers is essential as that is where the biggest future sell-on profit is, which we can then re-invest.
Short-term, Robins will be as frustrated as we are, no doubt, but he is no fool. We might be in for a bit of a plateau in our development in the first half of the season, but I think we will finish the 2nd half of it strongly and snatch the last play off spot.

you a cov fan? but thats not true
Happy to trade football knowledge with you but its seems pretty dull.

I;ve supported the club for over 40 years, had a season ticket for over 20 years. Played semi pro football, have my coaching badges, and i have a number of friends in senior business roles in football, but none at CCFC.

I don’t think its relevant to whether i;’m entitled to my view, but you asked.

you said the upturn in our fortunes was because of king

the fact he came in when we were on the up curve was nothing to do with him and he was fortunate to take over at the same time as our fortunes changed

Have you watched us at all at the end of last season and start of this season. It is the performances that are beyond pitiful that is the problem

Yes he was lucky that we had Hamer and Vik.

He made his own luck by then buying out Sisu within weeks after realising they didn’t have a shared vision. He made his own luck by not selling either Vik or Hamer in the January window when he could have done so and derisked his investment.

The extent to which we were on an upward curve in the championship is debatable. It was an awful summer recruitment wise, the playing surface was horrific, relations with the owners the stadium owners and the council were broken, the training ground was woeful, we had no scouting network, etc etc

The thing for me is the football we were playing. Where has it gone?
This pass and move, make yourself available, never leave someone on their own football.
We were putting passing moves together that if they were in the premier league, commentators would be waxing lyrical.
Think we scored one goal where we strung 17 passes together and stuck it in the net, without the opposition touching it.
We were counter attacking at speed. We would defend a corner, and 3 seconds later be in their box.
Sometimes we applauded a throw in just because the football leading up to it was so good.
The quick passing was simply too much for most teams.
Now we are playing a completely different game,in fact I don’t know what we are trying to do. So if one of you more knowledgeable cares to explain the new style feel free.
Because unfortunately I think our signature football went out the door with Vivash.

My take on Robins.

There's no manager more deserving of time and trust to sort things out. He's got a proven track record that's not in question and the man deserves a statue. Without him there may not be a club.

However, previous success isn't a guarantee of repeating it in the future. And we are very much into unknown territory now, he has never had this level of resources at his disposal or level of expectation. I'm pretty confident that he will turn round the current rut and that we will be around (and probably just short) of the POs. Which isnt apocalyptic in the grand scheme but certainly disappointing.

For me, the jury is out on whether he will be able to take us beyond the level of the last two seasons.

There have been a multitude of changes at the club and it's hard to imagine that hasn't had an impact, so you can't blame MR for everything but there are things that you absolutely can.

Eg: there's no excuse for the players looking so clueless. 9/11 starters were here last season yet they are playing as though they've never met each other before kick off. What's going on during training? We've played shittier teams that are far more organised and play cohesively compared to us. That's on MR for me.

We never seem to have a plan B when the opposition changes it up or stifles us. That's also on MR.

It's harder to judge team selection as I don't see what's happening behind the scenes but our two expensive CBs benched and replaced by golden boy lats and no clean sheets Binks is odd. As is playing EMC on the right. I'm sure there's a reason for it but from the outside it doesn't add up.

The final thing that does worry me a bit is listening to him after these abject performances, he doesn't really project confidence that he knows how to turn it round and it just feels a bit flat.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think that everything is rosy as we would like behind the scenes, players getting visibly frustrated on the pitch after just 4 games is a worry and hints to that.

DL and AV were integral to our success, regardless of how they departed he is now alone amongst a backroom of DK appointees. He may have more people around him but is probably lonelier than ever - I think if we are way off and he feels he has been undermined there's a chance he will walk before DK makes the call anyway.

Reading these comments is pretty uninspiring along with the odd praise for just conceding once against a team that we should be on par with

If we’ve spent £40m and are still reliant on our best player to get results, something has clearly gone wrong.

It's puzzling to me as the pre season performances looked fluid, players looked on the same wavelength and generally just miles away from what we've seen this month.

If I were in his position I'd scrap any planned holiday for the international break and get players working overtime on 1 or 2 touch passing and off the ball movement. So many of the problems come from it taking an age to advance the ball and players just standing still expecting the pass.
Good point and makes me wonder if the circumstances around Palmers departure mooted team spirit and by dint appetite yesterday.

In a way, if that's true (and MR's point about players not being as up for it point to this too), it should be something addressed in time and hopefully very fucking quickly.

Young team, spoilt lifestyle, moody reactions to some disruption. Need a fucking rocket to switch it on.

Sounds like if DK wants success, he better find a bad cop character/s to address attitudes in squad then, I dont think that's MR's strength or what you want from a manager necessarily. This is surely where the coaching team support the manager by doing more then just drills, and encourage the right squad culture!

The way to nip this in the bud is hard work on the training ground focusing on the above. No holiday, this needs sorting before it becomes a season defining problem.

This was the team against Wolves last season: -

Collins
Latibeaudiere - Thomas - Kitching - Bidwell
Sheaf - Eccles
MVE - Palmer - Wright
Simms

That was probably one of the best performances I've ever seen from a City side. The side we put out yesterday is startlingly similar, apart from the fact both Thomas and Kitching have been dropped, Sakamoto was available, MVE could play at RB, Rudoni has replaced Palmer/O'hare, and Sheaf is unavailable. Clearly no issues with personnel at the moment, except for Sheaf's absence. More quality depth in the squad as well to bring on. This must be tactical, or the players are just slow to get up to speed with the pace of the Championship each season. Haji made an interesting comment in a recent interview, where he said it takes a few games to get going in the Championship, and form comes with the quick turn around and shear amount of games.

How much pressure is being piled onto Sheaf tho? one man should not be carrying the expectation of the whole Club!!! we should have got one in to share the workload not replace him, Eccles hasn't got the physicality or speed of thought to step in for him.

New season, same old MR out narrative being spun.

Yesterday was poor and very little to take forward as a positive. However we’ve a long way to go and we’ve been here before.

Expectations and pressure are certainly higher this year, partly because we have a plethora of attacking talent we aren’t utilising, but let’s give MR a chance to work it out shall we.

It’s King thats spent it! Hes taken control of all transfers

And it’s him that’ll want results to show for it. Said himself he’s not really a football man, so how sentimental will he actually be?

Very good players make average players look and play better than they would otherwise be capable of. We don't have any very good players in Midfield with out Sheaf. When he is back things will change BUT we needed another in there who was also very good. After losing the Preston lad to Sunderland and the Shamanic debarkle I would have thought Austin and King would work something out in the 10 weeks they had to address an obvious weak area in the team. But no, instead King just sold our most creative midfielder and decided to replace him with fresh air and optimism!!!
