Game management (7 Viewers)

The subs were bang on. Wright and Eccles had run themselves into the ground. Bassette as well, and Simms was a perfectly logical choice. The way we lost was disappointing, but decisions were spot on.
I think the changes were logical on paper - but they were clearly pre-planned and, ultimately, they disrupted our momentumt sure you can call them ‘spot on’.

For me, we need to phase our subs, particularly against that quality of opposition: i.e., take Bassette off, reflect on the impact that’s had on the game (plus Madisson + Son), then apply the necessary changes to tighten in midfield.

This thread is an over-reaction.

This was a game in the lesser cup competition and players were taken off with a more important league game on Saturday in mind.

We were also playing a team who were able to bring on top class internationals.

It was a sickening way to lose, but hardly warrants hand-wringing.

it’s beyond weird how you can go on a massive rant after watching that.

Its really not though, is it?

Its not even just that game, we are fucking awful at trying to kill games and shithousing but we see it every week against us.

Robins has his pre planned subs that happen regardless of what's going on in the game.

Yes, it is.

we won’t play much better than that all season, we just totally outplayed a pretty top club, and bar a couple of bad mistakes we’d have won reasonably comfortably.

it’s fuck all to do with Robins, the coaches, or anyone else- we played really really well, and managed to screw it up right at the end. Which is no disgrace against that team, and all this angry posturing, stamping of feet, complaining- it’s weird.

Again. Its not just this game is it?

Its all well and good appearing after the game and going on with hindsight but the way we lost that wasn't good.

Even if we took them to penalties and lost it would have been better.

Still of course, it was nothing to do with anybody that we lost 🤣

We’re talking about this game, tonight, and you’re off on a weird tangent coming out with stuff that doesn’t even make sense. Game management is totally irrelevant, it was a bad pass, loss of possession, and bang- we concede the winner a few seconds later. Absolutely nothing to do with ‘game management’.

you can say we dominated but didn’t take our chances, you can say that we gifted them a goal, but it’s weird to come out windmilling obsessing over ‘game management’.

Its very relevant at 1-1 with a couple of minutes to go, in the game, tonight.

It does when you are winning them.
Or the ref adds loads of time on and you concede in the 7th minute of injury time.

How many times over the last few seasons have we benefitted with late goals due to teams' shithousing?

Loads.

Can't stand shithousing and time-wasting, when 90 minutes is done and you're winning, you want as small a number as possible on the board. Big psychological boost to seeing a high one.

We needed to stop their momentum when they were clearly going to score again.

And what has that got to do with the bad pass, and how does said bad pass relate to these thousands of coaching staff that you’re so obsessed with?

The way you’re seeing this makes no sense whatsoever. Had we scored a couple of simple chances it wouldn’t have been an issue anyway- is that game management too? The coaching staff?

If Wright scores an open goal or we take any of the other myriad chances then the end of the game’s irrelevant.

You just have to take your chances, twice in 5 days it’s cost us a result.
What happened with wrights chance was it blocked
Should have been red and free kick anyway

Don't know why he to Bassette, Eccles and Rudoni off, they played out there skin, surely Bassette needed 90 mins under his belt, that fucked us up, Allen didn't do a thing and stayed on😡
Eccles was good tonight. Bassette is raw and full of beans but has some way to go. Allen just has no real effect on the game.

Fucksake people just can’t see it can they. It was a great performance overall but when push comes to shove we have to be more savvy in closing out games. If the subs were brought on individually then you are stop starting their increasing momentum . Instead all we did was fuck up our own balance 🤦‍♂️

It makes perfect sense.

I'm talking about when it was 1-1. We just did fuck all about it.

As for obsessed. Glad you see you're obsessed with me again.

It wasn't just a badly executed pass, it was the wrong pass for that point in the game which I think is what some may mean when they say game management.

Think when you are the inferior team on paper and legs are tired trying to play intricate passes through the midfield in the 92nd minute probably isn't the way to go. Knock it into then channel and ask Simms to chase it down and maybe we get a throw or corner, if Tottenham then get the ball they aren't in a dangerous position and our defence has had time to set.

If we're playing Oxford and it's 1-1 in the 92nd minute then yes, we probably want to try and be a bit more inventive and precise with our play but you do that then knowing the risk isn't as great if you give it away as Oxford don't have the quality of a team like Tottenham.

No not obsessed- I think you’re talking rubbish so I’m saying so, most other people look like they’re seeing it similar to how I saw it- so no need to debate anything. You’re a very paranoid type of person, aren’t you? But if you’re getting uncomfortable I’ll leave you to it.

Great performance just missed chances and tiring as they brought on true international class players.

We lost Really because of a mistake , we can't expect spurs to bring on the players they did and expect to not concede a chance .. we tired a bit , fell naturally deeper and their subs were the difference.

We had the chances to win the match
The players they brought on didn’t create the chance though our fuck up under no pressure did

Rudoni was absolutely outstanding tonight. His energy levels was beyond all 21 others on the pitch . When he went off we never quite looked the same, but my first thought was that Robins was already thinking about the next match .
A really great performance generally from the whole team. If we beat Swansea then the disappointment we're all feeling will be forgotten.

This was the time for us to do to others what they do to us - time waste - go down with a fake injury and frustrate the opposition!
But no!!!!!!!!
We paid the price - good effort but we need to wise up!
