Same here never had a steward say that and I do 75% of away
don't really go away these days due to family commitments but thinking back to when I did can't really remember stewards telling people to sit where they want very often. Happened every now and then when we'd be rattling round an empty away end.

I can imagine the people who sign off on event management and a stadiums safety certificate having something to say if that was the norm. Especially when we're talking about regular sell outs.

Happens regularly.
Of course the root cause is people not sitting in the correct seats in the first place.
But if at ten to 3 you've got to play musical chairs with a whole away end of course you're going to tell people to sit wherever.
The only option is to check everyone who comes in sits in the correct seat from the minute the gates open, which is never going to happen.

Like I said about last week, they shut off the block we were supposed to be in because it was full, I wasn't bothered to be honest, got to see the game.

From a 71 year old with chronic back pain due to an enlarged prostate pov I am starting to struggle to attend games home and away.

I can't stand for any longer than 15/20 minutes at a time before needing to sit for a few minutes to ease the pain.

Whilst I understand the desire to stand and watch the action as it's more exciting and more inclusive (let's face it I was brought up watching from standing terraces for decades), it is frustrating, whilst having to sit, to miss some of the game.

I'd rather not get into a discussion with those that are short of social skills and lacking in awareness of others so I just sit in silence and put up with it.

Thought I'd bring this up again, seeing as a few don't see there is a issue with standing where they want at away games.

Today went to go up to our seat, with my 7 year old at about 2.40ish.
4 lads was in my seats, was told "stand where I want mate", i said I had my lad with me and he needs a seat to stand on or he can't see. Was called a c**t etc as i got there too late, should have been in my seat earlier apparently. They finally moved after I didn't back down.
But the self importance, attitude and selfishness of fans is going down hill massively.
Maybe I didn't notice it as much when I didnt have my lad with me, but the last 2 seasons I have seen a massive shift in the atmosphere and its not a good one.

People are little pricks nowadays. Issue is they know if they get a slap for acting up people will get banned for years and their parents will be in the paper acting like a victim.

To some of us that's young kids mate!
Yup. My first thought was "I wonder if they are still wearing short trousers."*

* Disclaimer:

This was a totally non-sexual thought process, or wanton desire and I have to clarify that I have absolutely no interest in gazing at boys in short trousers.

Was in the opposite position yesterday. We had 3 ticket, 2 in upper and 1 in lower. Swapped with someone outside the ground to have three in lower but in diff seats. So took three on the end of a row. No one asked us to move, however can appreciate for the older fan or those with younger fans it can be a pain to find a drunk in your area.

not sure what the end solution is, apart from if you do want your designated seat arrive early in my opinion.

This isn’t a new phenomenon by the way, happened even in league 2 even when you could choose seats at away grounds

Yeah it’s always been the case at away grounds.

When I take my son (9 now, but going since 6) to away games, I tended to get in my seats 2pm to 2.15 (knowing what goes on) with no issue, with him standing on his chair. If there was any pissed/drugged up nonsense immediately near him, it would result in a slight nudge and a look at my boy, which usually calms it down.

I would not be protesting massively if people are swearing non-stop around him... I have the choice to not take him, knowing the environment.

Looked at our four tickets yesterday and for some reason they were on different rows and seats. Never seen that before.

I stood nearly where my seat was. If I was on my seat then the pillar would have obstructed the goal. In hindsight maybe I should have!

On our row there was about ten empty seats and saw a few others elsewhere. Dunno where they get the 'sell out' from.

Even so. There's being mindful of it rather than "just don't bring your kids".

I'm tall so I'm constantly paranoid about people behind me not being able to see, especially when there's kids. Same as swearing and being a dickhead.

Its basic manners and respect. Same as holding doors open for people or giving up a seat for somebody if they need it more.
