Looks like the vat for schools is going to backfire as they are now all going to claim vat from the past few years. 🤣

Its the Capital Goods Scheme legislation introduced in 1990. So the very best public schools who have purchased land and built facilities can claim back exemptions from the HMRC for the last 10 years.

Its a disaster as the elite schools such as Eton are likely to benefit from the arrangement whereas the struggling schools like those in Coventry are likely to be fucked

Yep absolutely right

But also capital projects over 10 years are allowed to be reclaimed so those schools - the rich and powerful ones - will be making significant backdated claims to the HMRC which outweighs any obvious benefits of the programme for several years

Who the fuck does Khan think he is? Jumped up little fucker.

Khan is an absolute bell end, but if the public has changed it's mind over Brexit, no harm in having a discussion in rejoining (I've only read the headline so could be completely wrong).

Exactly.

The thing is the places like Eton, the VAT wouldn't have bothered the parents there or make a jot of difference.

The ones in Coventry are more likely to have parents already making huge sacrifices.

Just goes to show it was all about spite and now HMRC will be paying out millions (if not billions) to the richer schools.

Not sure they really thought it through, did they?

Wonder who'll be getting the first payment, post office, Grenfell victims or the schools, ametuer hour continues! What a fake!

Reading more on Ozempic. Curious as to whether those who are against are also against nicotine replacement therapy for quitting smoking? The morally upstanding method is only cold turkey surely?
A lifetime supply of medication for a few billion people should be no problem at all, even ignoring how little we know about what that will do long term.

The vast majority of parents already cannot afford private education so they use the state sector. Speaking personally I’d save the money spent on private secondary school and use it on tuition fees/university if that’s where someone wants to go. To be blunt, private education as it stands in this area isn’t worth the cost.

If you can, get into a grammar or just a decent comp. Coventry has more than it used to.

Are there any grammar schools in Coventry?

My point was that a lot of parents will be making sacrifices for it at the smaller schools where as the ones like Eton are a completely different league. They will be benefiting from it though while the more "normal" parents will be hit.

Stratford Girls catchment extends to Finham I know that. None in CCC boundary afaik.

Has the public changed its mind?

Lawrence Sheriff and Rugby High School’s catchment extends into Coventry I think.

That word IF again. How do we gauge if the public has changed its mind? Another referendum?

I guess it would be apart of an election manifesto first, for what it's worth I don't think the public has changed their views much on Brexit tbh.

Hopefully a referendum for back in and they win 51/49. My personal choice would be to stay out but I'd take back in just to see the hypocrisy of how 51/49 is binding and no mentions about turn out or who did and didn't get the opportunity to vote.

You have to be intelligent to get in to those though, not just have the money.
If your child is academically minded, they're suitable places to be aiming for. If they aren't, the extra thousands a year spent on private school fees could probably go elsewhere and benefit them more long term.

I can see that, other than the access to the old boys network that private school may confer.

It’s hellishly competitive to get in to a grammar though, isn’t it?
