Well this is Beckham and the paper is the telegraph. Becks seems to think he is a good player having played against him
Beckham even compared fledgling Fleck's relationship with Rangers' assistant-manager Ally McCoist to the tutelage he received from Sir Alex Ferguson.
"John is a good player and it is great for any young player to have the chance to play for such a big club as Rangers," said the 33-year-old.
Remind me how many players we have who have played against Becks and he thought they were good.

Well he's best mates with Chris Birchall and probably rates him after playing with him.
I wouldn't read too much into what people say about youngsters. There have been many a highly rated youngster gone on to achieve nothing.
Kevin Thornton was probably one of the most naturally gifted younsters to come through our academy.....
People were touting sheffers as a possible future England player.
Andy Gooding played for England at every age level before we binned him off.

2009 however Fleck is still only 21. He has this skill and we have seen glimpses of it. A run of games and he will become pivotal as will Barton.

Tbh if fleck was good enough then he would be starting, MR would put him in the team surely? I agree he has potential but we may not see that potential. Lots of players a over hyped now and a lot of them are wrong. Fleck hasn't done anything to prove he is good enough here yet apart from a couple good corners he hasn't shown much. If Fleck proves me wrong then fine but so far he has been poor.

I don't think he should be in the starting line up, other people are performing and have the shirt currently, he will get his chance in the team though because thats football with injuries and suspensions inevitable. It is then up to him to keep the shirt, I think he has the potential to become a good player for us in the future though
He hasn't really been able to get going for us either, I think he had a pre season injury and then was injured for about 5 weeks at the Yeovil game and now he is out of the team.

Yeah I have defended Jeffers.
I agree Fleck (and Barton) have potential and time on their side they may turn out to be good players, but at the minute it's just potential. They are squad/fringe players at the minute nothing more nothing less.

Little late to the thread and appreciate the quoted comment is now 9 hours old, but to me this sums up the new Coventry attitude. For too long we've put up with inadequacy based on the belief that they're 'good guys' who have a decent game 1 in 5.
Have a watch of the JPT 'Paint Pot Challenge' video where Hussey pretends to be some sort of gangster to be funny and the pic of him 'smoking', it's clear that he simply loves being a professional footballer rather than him actually wanting to be a better professional footballer.
Well, s'long sucker, we ain't subsidising your 'celebrity' lifestyle any longer. Go ask Thornton for advice on what to do next. Us fans are finally realising we need winners and sentimentality went out the window when MR was appointed (having said all that I fell Malaga was estranged for MR to stamp his authority and make a break from the prev regime).

Thats exactly what i said he has potential. The starting line up bit is now wrong though. And this was after he had one good sub appearance he might not be thinking this now after seeing him more as this was very early in his reign?

He needs to start affected games in open play, apart from the set prices he has been a passenger when he's played.

I think he's been disappointing. Very slow and hardly ever in the game. He's a passenger 90% of the time. Plays like he's at the end of his career not the beginning.

I think he needs four or five 90 minute games injury free under his belt. However this rightly should only come when one of the current first 11 are injured, suspended or their loan/contract ends. He has no devine, right to play.
Barton seems to be taking the limited opportunities he has been getting, so it will be the same for him.
It's great that we have players with such ability on the bench.
I do feel the likes of Cody, Barton, Fleck, Cameron, Clarke, Hussey would be automatic choices in many (not all) other league one teams. We are in a great position.

But most of those have been from set peices. It's no coincidence that our performances and results have improved since he has been out the team, and we have more mobile players in midfield.
