Incredibly unfortunate timing with the VSC, but have to maintain track position there as it was clear the track was getting extremely wet and the FIA are becoming more and more risk averse with these kind of track conditions.

I didn't even think it was possible to get a black flag DSQ these days. When was the last time that happened? I know cars have been DSQ'd after races in the last few years, but during the race? That's got to be going back a few years.

I thought it was a slam dunk 5 seconds tbf. I don't know if there's some loophole about the race having technically not started, maybe, so it wasn't a jump start, just a procedural cock up? I've not read the document yet to know what the logic is there.

When will they end the free tyre change under a red flag? In my opinion if the race is stopped you shouldn't be able to change anything on the car. Plus they should make it mandatory that you have to pit at least once regardless of the conditions. It's not fair that some teams get unlucky having pitted and others get a free change, not just yesterday but all too often a race being stopped changes the race result.

I thought about that and no I wouldn't as that is still during the race and time is still lost, just not as much. Could be a safety issue if it started raining during an SC for instance.

Why wasn't he allowed to be pushed out of the gravel so he could start? In fact why was Hulk DQ'd when there was nothing wrong with his car but the surface?

Obviously allowances for changing to inters/wets.
If tyres are old and getting dangerous could make it so mechanics couldn't touch the car for 5-10 secs under SC

Because you're not allowed to receive outside assistance from track marshals and continue. It's a black and white rule, so unfortunately if you beach your car, it's over.
I'm entirely sure there used to be something in the regs that went along the lines of "unless your car is considered to be in a dangerous position", which a couple of drivers used to get unstuck over the years. I guess they just don't use that wording any more.

Race hadn't started though so why couldn't they help and why can't they push you out anyway? If the car still works safely why can't you continue. You are highly unlikely to be gaining an advantage after crashing and being pushed a couple of metres.

I agree it seems a bit silly that if the race is delayed because a driver is in the litter on the formation lap then there shouldn't be an issue with getting them out and getting back to the pits to take the start from there.
Then again, if he hadn't been a total idiot and taken the huge ass escape road he had available to him, he wouldn't have had a problem.

It's probably to not encourage marshals etc to try and help get them out and potentially putting themselves in danger. Hence it being black and white - you can't do it.

I'm conflicted, as I do like the strategic element to pit stops, and possible red flags adds an additional metric that needs to be considered when deciding when or even whether to pit.
I like and loathe cars being allowed to change tyres under red flags. Exciting that cars will risk not coming in hoping for a VSC/SC or red flag, but also it can be pure luck as it's relying on luck/factors outside a team's control.

I just guess a cheap stop is ok, a free stop isn't racing. Both have an element of luck involved don't they.
