Again, I disagree. Economically speaking, they are more Tory than Labour, agreed. I think that is more of a nuance to American politics.

However their ideological stance on social issues are further Left than Labour. Taking everything into totality, I think they veer to the centre-left, even by European standards.
No they are not. The only thing that really matters is where they are economically and they are firmly on the right wing of politics.

Transgenderism and abortions are the domain of the upper classes?
It’s also not even true. Trump’s campaign spent the last few weeks focusing their adverts on trans athletes, the Harris campaign focused on economics.

Still, makes no difference. If people on here believe the bullshit narrative obviously American voters will too.

With the amount of donations and money spent. Supporters are not happy and calling for an audit.

300m dollars a month burn rate is crazy

With the insane amounts of money we're talking about is $20m debt really a big issue? I mean to me and you it would be but when you're burning through hundreds of millions a week maybe not so much.

Harris wanted unrealised capital gains before she had to row back due to push back. She planned to quadruple tax on stock buy backs. These are not right wing !!! She historically wanted to increase corp tax to 35%. She is a progressive.

The US is centre right. The. Democrats had tried to push further left and they were resoundingly beaten.

I actually agree with some of their policies/proposed policies but let’s not pretend they’re not coming from the left. The democrats weren’t given the opportunity to implement more of these policies

If you burn 1 billion and still get in to debt I think it's time for a new accountant.

Pelosi has got tens of millions from insider trading, sure she can plug the gap

Imagine her in charge of the country’s budget…

The ROI for paying for all those celebrity endorsements is astonishingly low. Comfortably the worst candidate since Dukakis.

Exactly. People will believe what they want to believe and most of the reasons given for people voting Trump are incoherent. The fact the polls underestimate how many people will vote for him - despite trying to control for it - says a lot.

The only people who kept going on about Harris’ race and gender were on the other side. ‘Is she Indian or is she black?’ Trump liked to ask.

He had ‘concepts’ of a healthcare plan, she actually had one but is apparently out of touch with working people. The truth is the voters just really wanted the Democrats out of office for their personal economic difficulties.

The economics for ordinary people were bad. Inflation was up 9% and food groceries were up 20%. Bill Clinton’s adage of ‘it’s the economy, stupid’ rung true again - inflation growth trumped GDP growth in this election.

Bernie Sanders put it best when he called out the Harris campaign for failing to talk about ‘bread and butter’ issues traditional Democrat tend to care about.

Every demographic swung to Trump barring college educated women. The whole country cannot be wrong - they clearly reject Harris’ messaging. She tried to simultaneously distance herself from the Biden administration as a ‘change candidate’ without specifically saying what she’d change - the Dems have been in charge for 12 of the last 16 years too.

If the Democrats hold the same view you do in their election post-mortem, they won’t win back office for a long time.

I’m just saying what I saw. The Harris campaign did focus heavily on economic messaging, the Trump campaign focused on trans athletes and to a lesser degree immigration. JD Vance who you seem to think was the bees’ knees chose not to turn up to vote on increasing child tax credit despite claiming he supports doing that.

It is simpler to view the election as a referendum on the incumbent party and through that lens, no Democrat could have won this election because the country as a whole rejected their handling of affairs. If the full ‘Build Back Better’ package had gone through I imagine the result would have been turned on its head.

Trump gets free press everywhere he goes and raises most of his money off the books.
It’s incredible, for all the talk of media bias towards the dems I couldn’t tell you a single thing about Harris and I can’t think that I’ve ever heard her talk. She’s was VP for the last 4 years!

Meanwhile Trump like Farage is in my fucking newsfeeds constantly and just somehow part of broader culture via memes etc.

Yes, if you watch CNN or read the Guardian they support the dems but of course they do.

That’s because she avoided interviews etc. trump for all his faults (which are many) is a great self publicist. Harris wasn’t trusted to do anything. There is no way she should’ve got the gig without going through some kind of primaries/selection process

A lot of mainstream media were anti Trump more than pro Harris because of this. Like the remain v Brexit vote, the negative messaging alone wasn’t enough

Of the two candidates, I believe Trump is a better candidate and ran a better campaign.

Early in the campaign Trump painted inflation as being driven by the Democrats and it cut through. Whenever the candidates were interviewed, Trump was a lot better at articulating his policies whereas Harris’s media appearances were much more scripted. I’d seen 2-3 interviews where she told voters to go to her website to see all her policies without going into any details on one given area.

The Democrats themselves acknowledge the campaign was far too focussed on Trump, failed to return to ‘traditional’ Dem economic policies and of course Joe Biden for staying in the race too long. Despite the fact the mainstream media and Dem party machine insisted Biden was ‘sharp as a tack’ until the debate with Trump which shattered that narrative.

On the trans focus from the Trump campaign, 85% of Americans are against the idea of biological men transitioning and competing in biological female sports. Some arguments Trump put forward was against the pharmaceutical lobbyists profiteering from medicalising transitions at early ages which is, frankly, arguments/scepticisms traditional Dems would be making. Last but not least, it also undermined the Harris campaigns narrative of being ‘for women’s rights’ when you have a candidate that’s played with ‘radical’ gender ideologies.

You have this situation where the Dems are derided as the elitist party rather than the party lead by a billionaire. In fact, a lot of Trump’s platform wouldn’t look out of place compared to say, the Bill Clinton Dem administration.

She had a teleprompter at a town hall and would only appear on sympathetic outlets. Her appearance on 60 minutes and Fox News were disasters - Harris is an expert filibuster.

Meanwhile, Trump and Vance appeared on multiple podcasts and that was well received. Harris would only go on there if there was a 45m time limit.

I mean I just straight up disagree with this and that’s pretty much all there is to it. To say you think Trump was genuinely the better candidate does astonish me coming from you though.
