Trump’s plan might put the prices of some things up, as “economists” are saying. However, the tariff income will aid the economy in terms of money to their treasury / allow equal value tax cuts.

He won the popular vote this time despite his rivals throwing everything they could into stopping him.

Trump waffles a load of tripe sometimes but he’s got Musk in his team (smart guy and only a fool would disagree) and JD Vance has something about him.

IMO the democrats were / are corrupt (HB Laptop, 10% for the big guy, 51 intelligence agents, lawfare, Hillary emails etc.)

I’m still baffled why 11 million or so (when the final numbers come in, or 15% or so) LESS democrat voters turned out for Harris (70m) as did for Biden (81m). I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation.

US voters have spoken. They’ve gone for Trump. That’s that.
Great post.

I'm also looking forward to the explanation of the 11m shortfall.

Let’s do some simple maths. Joe Biden got 7 million more votes than Trump. Trump will get about 4 million more than Harris.

It’s an 11 million vote swing. Go on, say what you actually think happened

They are still counting in California and the other western seaboard states (unsure why). About another 7 million votes to tally that’ll probably break 4/5m Harris 2/3m Trump.

It’s (source BBC) about 68m Harris and 73m Trump atm so will end up 72/73m Harris and 75/76m to Trump.

I can’t see the”simple maths” switch.

However, I’m big enough to concede the following:

Wiki is currently saying 87% votes tallied in total, which is different to BBC. The final figures may yet differ. Total turnout v electorate must also be considered.

It’ll be interesting to compare states where voter ID is required v not required. It looks like the Dems won every state where ID is not required. It’ll be interesting in 4 years to look at these things if the GOP pass some kind of federal laws about voter ID.

Turning to the attempt of “tin-foil-hat” goading, I’m not going to suggest 11m fake ballots in 2020. The sudden late spike in Dem votes looked odd, but there may have been a good reason - let’s see.

It’ll be interesting to compare results and figures and data when the final tally is agreed.

JD Vance (future VP) was very eloquent in his explanation wrt the HB laptop story. Worth watching with an open mind.

Yes, so the answer to your question is that there’s an 11 million vote swing from 2020 Biden to 2024 Trump.

That’s it. Interesting to me that early on Trump was complaining about fraud in Detroit and Philadelphia until it became apparent he was winning. Then suddenly, no complaints at all.

Why is that?

that election was not about policies, it was about ideology, MAGA, ‘patriotism’, and Trump the personality. He could have said anything he wanted and he’d still have won. Policies were of very little relevance, what we see is people pretending he had a great set of polices when in reality loads of people- sadly- identify with what he stands for and what he embodies.

What is missing in all of this is that Joe Biden beat him by 7 million votes last time. Biden is not charismatic, barely coherent even then and couldn’t even campaign much. Yet he won.

So is the answer in fact to pick a white man?

Give it 4 years and the same will likely happen. It wears off as he goes too far and everyone realises it’s all a bit too much, hence his attempts to create a genuine dictatorship

Or a super charismatic black man.

Once in a blue moon he was. Funny also that the Democrats didn’t rig it to stop Trump when he was President either.

He’s a very pre 2012 politician as well, I don’t think he’d survive social media. Birthers and the Tea Party were basically a joke.

I think the bare minimum is an explicit nativist position everywhere across the west. What that means for world peace long term who knows.

The US is morphing into a dictatorship now, so we’re in uncharted territory on all of this.

BBC News - How would Trump’s promise of mass deportations of migrants work? - BBC News

Seems it's wrought with problems.

Be very interesting to see how Trump thinks he can do it.

Plus, the figure seems to be 11 million, but Trump says he will deport up to 21 million.

That will be interesting too.

"You once gave a lift to an illegal immigrant, so you're going too?"

That could well be just scare mongering. The whole system is shit scared that Trump is going to upset their cosy little applecart.

They've tried to silence him, then cancel him, then imprison him and even tried to kill him. They really where going to stop at nothing to stop him getting into the white house.

One things for sure, it's going to be interesting to see what he does, and how things work out.
Trump is a billionaire and very much part of ‘the system’ and the elite ffs.

I mean I just straight up disagree with this and that’s pretty much all there is to it. To say you think Trump was genuinely the better candidate does astonish me coming from you though.

Do tell fatso
Brighton you are very invested in the USA election & clearly disturbed by Trump romping home.
I would like to ask have you visited the USA ? What are your direct experiences of North America?

I have indeed, my grandad lived in Fort Lauderdale for many years and had an American wife.

As for this election I think it’s a critical point in history as for the first time a fascist has been made president but with none of the traditional checks and balances. So it’s significant beyond the US.

I'll have to take that as a "NO" then.

Are you sure that your mind isn't so open that your brain has fallen out?

You've got one person on record as asking an electoral official to find thousands more votes in Georgia, when he lost.

And you've got another on record asking Americans to accept the result of the election when they lost.

And you're accusing the latter of election interference based on literally no evidence.

I'm sorry, but that's tin foil hat territory.

I can see by the inverted commas elsewhere that you don't trust "economists". Are you ok with "scientists" (say, on climate change) or "doctors" (say, on injecting bleach)?

Ooh, ooh, I was over there literally last week. Am I allowed to comment on Trump, or has that right expired now?

Just whilst we're here, could you produce your most recent ticket stubs please?

It's just I've noticed you posting on topics related to Coventry City, and just wanted to check that you had enough points to do so.

It’s a magical land you cannot know. No one knows any Americans that’s a lie they only speak to other Americans. No one has been there, they just Truman Show it on a set in a parking lot in Bethnall Green.
We’ve been invited to Seattle next year to stay with some American friends of ours from university. I’ll have to remember to get signed proof from them that we went.

Brighton, you've gone full Ned Flanders. For your own sanity I honestly think some time in the fresh air could be helpful. Some of the others on here that are making this thread batshit (Emily Maitlis reference) also could do with the same - and it isn't those who you think it is acting mental!

I’ve said already this election is the one that alongside a few others is leading me to check out of interest in politics in the UK and elsewhere. A bit of cathartic venting is about all that remains to be done.
