But when they hired wrong managers the system didn't work did it? Got lucky with robins.

We can't rely on luck long term

Got lucky with Robins then king came along and fucked everything up.
The notion that the IT Crowd will give us stability and the support the new man needs is fanciful I'd say.
At least let him bring in his own staff.

I mentioned it earlier on another thread, the clubs stated the new "head coach" will have to work within the club structure.... but never mentioned that means keeping the current first team coaches ,I reckon any new "Head coach" will want their own trusted assistants.
100% certain Lampard will be asking for that (if the very strong rumours are correct).

yeah, we do need a sporting director/director of football
Although it's not her official title, given that she's been involved in the interviewing and recruitment of the coaches and the change in the coaching set-up, it does feel like Dr. Roberts is at least partially filling the role unofficially.

So, quite a well connected conversation I had today was quite interesting - and also as a huge fan, left me a little bit deflated.

The title refers to the new structures on the footballing side of the club.

In line with the vastly improved training facilities, the new structure of performance director and multiple coaches seemed (seems) like a decent idea and has the potential to take us to the next level - and seems to be a modern way forward.....

However, what I have heard today is why I have added the second part of the title.

Apparently;
Coaching/tactical nous is levels below what was previously in place. To the point where MR was even having to chip in with training ground coaching. He is not a coach.
Performance director is trying to "run the show".
Lead coach is their appointment - not MRs and is the biggest yes man going. Do not rule out him getting the Head Coach role. (Speculation from conversation - not info like other bits)
There are too many voices giving lower level of instruction.
AV departure was due to some new players throwing him under the bus and his poor relationship with the performance director.
He was the main man coaching wise.

So on paper, what could have been a positive move forwards has been a bit of a car crash with average coaches being employed by what sounds like a performance director who wants their own people in alongside long standing coaches and now the manager being sacrificed to facilitate this.

There is nobody already lined up to come in.
The AV info was sort of in plain sight on the first training session vlog. The cameraman Asked Milan what he thought of the session. Something to the effect of ‘much better’

If all this is true and I'm not saying it isn't God help us. We're in for a very bleak future.
I didn't think I could feel any emptier after MR's sacking but I am.
Not feeling that myself. It’s onwards and upwards. The caveat being that I don’t want Lampard despite some good comments on some of the posts. I’ll be chuffed if we pull out of this poor run. 26 games 19 points is not good form. Robins had a difficult task once he’d lost unpopular AV.

question - what makes the coaches ‘sub-standard’ if they’ve got the requisite uefa qualifications to do the job? Perception of the players? Or just differences in the coaches methods themselves?
just looked this up - both Adi and Dennis are uefa pro licence holders.
George Boateng also has a uefa pro licence, the other three all have the A licence.
Adi was doing youth teams at Chelsea before he came here so not dissimilar.

Same as many things

A piece of paper telling you someone's good at something means fuck all in real world situations

What I’m struggling to understand is what King thinks Robins has done wrong.

If under this new structure the manager has had all almost all his duties split out to other coaches, what was Robins left with? Was his job just to pick the team and do the pre match talk?

The corporate way,
minimise the responsibility someone has then suddenly find they’re not required. Change the job title and bring someone else in, who won’t step out of line and question your authority

Using the people around him and the players he's been given to get results on the pitch. People have decided - understandably - that MR was let down by people around him and / or the players he's been given. I guess we'll find out eventually.

Viveash was at Chelsea for six years after an 18 year playing career, Carr (who has deleted his LinkedIn lol) was at the Irish Women’s team for 18 months with a background in fitness. Boateng apparently let go by Villa U21s then assistant at Ghana where they failed to qualify out of their group.

Boeteng was head development coach for Villas U23 and left of his own accord to take the Ghana job

And I think George was pretty highly thought of at Villa - apparently quite a few of his u23 team have made it thru to the first team - although I’m trying to find out who.
and he was already doing something with Ghana - he left to focus entirely on it.

It’s possible that due to Robin’s comments after recent games re attitude/energy etc that he became too vocal and anti-establishment. And we know what happens when King thinks he’s undermined.
I’m not even sure he had full authority on team selection.

I’ve seen this in my own workplace.

Take away someone’s ability to make decisions, but leave them with the burden of getting results

That's weird as Milan is a shadow of himself.

Yes it is. But first day back, new coaches etc. I took it to be a reflection on the change

They all are. Just like if you let kids eat what they want they’ll gorge on sweets and say it’s great until the stomach ache comes.

Why a bunch of kids were given free rein over training god knows.

It was an easier decision to sack MR and blame him than blame himself for other hires that sufficed his strategy that are not working out.

If all this is true I do feel for MR. But at the end of the day Doug has put his money in, it's his call. Maybe MR was struggling with the role he was given. Maybe he has been manipulated into a position where he can only struggle which is brutal.

End of the day it's Doug's call, if he wants a coach as opposed to a manager/motivator he needed to change things up. The manner he has done it is probably not the best but it was fairly subtle if the above is to believed.

I hope things work out for Doug and CCFC. Enjoy the ride.

Now I’m starting to calm down I will be a little less critical of King

I think his intentions are to improve the club, regardless of what works.

And I also think it’s unfair to say he’s trying to do things on the cheap. These coaches will be costing far more than Robins & Viveashs salaries

Ok fair do’s Adi was at a much higher level and won stuff.
Carr was also at Bristol city, wolves and also teaches on the uefa B course.

but if we’re going on track record, how do coaches progress along a career path if they aren’t given opportunities at higher levels?
I think DK has a big problem with the next appointment - does he go for a proven winner to get us promoted? If so there’s not many/no-one available?

or does he do an Ipswich or Birmingham and give a relatively unknown coach a first opportunity at the level and see if it works - because if that’s the case there’s gonna be a lot of people unhappy.
They'll be happy if it does work, but that's a big if.
In the more likely event of them falling on their arse then deep shit awaits.

Isn’t attitude and energy within the Performance Director’s remit?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
