It was the first test Doug failed and the first of the heart of that squad to go. Vik was quality but not the same personality as well and was always going to leave. Probably even if we got promoted. He’s been too keen to replace what we had and it’s meant there’s been no continuity.
Whilst I think there's a lot of mistakes you can lay at King's door, I'm not sure how Hamer leaving is one of them.
He was off as soon as Dabo skied his penalty. Just because we hoped / thought he might stay doesn't change that.
We desperately miss his vision more than anything, but it's not as if we haven't tried to replace him, however unsuccessful that might have been. We aren't in the market for £15m midfielders, so were never going to get a player of the same quality as Hamer was in his final season. We actually did what we should have done, and reinvested the money across the squad; in that sense King did exactly what we needed him to do to allow progression. If that recruitment was crap, then that's not the same problem as a player who'd outgrown us leaving.
