I don't understand why some are getting so defensive about her.

She's been brought in on what will be a top salary to help improve the players performances, and our players performances have not improved. It's therefore OK to ask questions about why that isn't happening. It doesn't have to be a witch hunt.

Instead we've got people getting upset and using the 'sexist' line. She then goes on holiday, and Doug goes in on anyone who also is asking questions. That seems to appease some, who then also don't want to hear any constructive questioning, and just regurgitate what he has said without thinking about it.

That’s all fine, you are entitled to ask questions about that.

Responsibility for what? She is not involved with anything in game or to prep for game in training = the word performance in performance director, doesnt equate to performances on the pitch.

It’s difficult to say. We have had some good performances, but we’ve been inconsistent and defensively subject. For me personally, I don’t think that’s to do with nutrition and rest.

More balance of squad, some players settling in, changing of defence, goalkeeper, systems etc. None of which are anything to do with her.

one would argue that despite all the shit that’s happened - the teams mental ability to come back from 2-0 down twice in the last 3 weeks is testament to the work on the mental side

Yeah the manager is a much bigger variable for one. It’s unlikely the players eating healthier is going to cause a drop off in form

I agree, but as we didn’t really have anyone at all looking at that before, and now we have someone with a pHd doing so, I’m pretty sure it’s actually giving us an advantage rather than a disadvantage.

Absolutely nothing wrong with questioning her role if Jay DaSilva still looks like a chubby 13 year old with his top off on City unseen. I think he looked very energetic in the Sunderland game though so hopefully it’s working for him.

Her role was literally explained last night. She is there to put things in place, to get the players to training and to games, in the best condition.
Covering off their diets, sleeping habits, rehabilitation protocols from injuries, their strength and conditioning programmes in the gym, managing their workloads and mental health too. The things that make a professional athlete, a professional.

That is the role of head of performance across the country, and Doug spelled it out last night. She probably doesnt even attend games, she doesnt need to other than from the perspective of supporting the team. She has no role on a match day

Part of being a peformance director will be looking at what's not working and having it changed. I'd say that is being done.

But for me that’s where the defensive thing has come from. When I’ve explained the role in the past. It gets batted aside into “well we’ve been shit” etc.

Yeah she also manages the medical staff, sports science staff and data analytics staff. Rather than Robins having to manage everyone.

I don't think drilling down into the granular minutiae of the sports science element is going to give us many answers to the wider issue. There may well be aspects there that need improvement but the elephant in the room needed addressing before anything else is their thinking I'm guessing. The coaching needs sorting before they decide what the players are having for breakfast

I can’t. If someone sees “performance” in her job title and then links that directly to performance on the pitch I have difficulty understanding how someone with such simplistic thinking functions.

Yes she’s going to help players reach peak performance and fitness through various avenues but it’s pretty obvious the manager and coaching staff have most influence on the pitch isn’t it?

Im not desperate to defend her but her being on holiday was used recently to highlight the club being in turmoil.

More than a few have taken their own assumptions, turned them into facts and got worked up about them.
