Performances perhaps?

I don't understand why some are getting so defensive about her.

She's been brought in on what will be a top salary to help improve the players performances, and our players performances have not improved. It's therefore OK to ask questions about why that isn't happening. It doesn't have to be a witch hunt.

Instead we've got people getting upset and using the 'sexist' line. She then goes on holiday, and Doug goes in on anyone who also is asking questions. That seems to appease some, who then also don't want to hear any constructive questioning, and just regurgitate what he has said without thinking about it.

That’s all fine, you are entitled to ask questions about that.

So you believe the players performances have been negatively impacted by their rest and nutrition being considered / analysed in a scientific way?

I was responding to this "The Performance Director has been defended to the end of earth, but other than the childish comment about coming to Ryton in order to deflect, she still holds some responsibility"

Responsibility for what? She is not involved with anything in game or to prep for game in training = the word performance in performance director, doesnt equate to performances on the pitch.

For someone coming at other people for supposedly not understanding semi-decent standard of sport, it seems quite odd you can't put two and two together.

You think the peformance director has absolutely no responsibility for player performances? None whatsoever? Looks like I'm in the wrong job then. If I wanted to turn up to work like Homer Simpson and not get challenged on what I do then I'll just apply to CCFC as a performance director.

It’s only a matter of time until there’s a thread about the cleaning lady using too strong a detergent in the changing room with the fumes going to the players head causing defensive blunders. Where has she worked previously anyway? LinkedIn says she only has an NVQ level 2, does that sound premier league to you? Just shows not everything King says is true.

Anything but Robins having a failing even though every match thread is complaints about his tactics and subs.

It's entirely possible.

They certainly haven't got better have they?

Like I said, it doesn't have to be a witch hunt. There are other variables that have much bigger bearing. To just ignore this, and shut down any debate on it is just silly though.

Pretty fucking obvious really but people are grasping at straws for it all to be her fault

Who's said it's all her fault? It's sensionalist nonsense.

The only straw grasping is coming from those unable to constructively look at what one member of staff is doing and get so triggered by it that she can't be challenged. That's the only reason this is getting so much attention right now.

It’s difficult to say. We have had some good performances, but we’ve been inconsistent and defensively subject. For me personally, I don’t think that’s to do with nutrition and rest.

More balance of squad, some players settling in, changing of defence, goalkeeper, systems etc. None of which are anything to do with her.

Becuase she’s being challenged based on the misunderstanding on the word “performance”

It doesn’t mean Jack Rudoni passing to a Derby player performance, it looks at how we can best mentally and physically prepare the players. She effectively head of the sports science department and analyses the data that they provide.

one would argue that despite all the shit that’s happened - the teams mental ability to come back from 2-0 down twice in the last 3 weeks is testament to the work on the mental side

It might not be, but it is worth a conversation. It just gets silly on here now though.

If a player is performing inconsistency then I would say nutrition and rest play a part to some degree.

Yes, I understand that.

The problem is now people think anyone questioning her job is either sexist or doesn't understand the role she has.

Yeah the manager is a much bigger variable for one. It’s unlikely the players eating healthier is going to cause a drop off in form

Whether it’s sexism or some other reason, I don’t know or especially care. But people fretting about the holiday schedule of the club’s chief nutritionist and suggesting they have some major significance on our current league position is clearly deranged.

I agree, but as we didn’t really have anyone at all looking at that before, and now we have someone with a pHd doing so, I’m pretty sure it’s actually giving us an advantage rather than a disadvantage.

Absolutely nothing wrong with questioning her role if Jay DaSilva still looks like a chubby 13 year old with his top off on City unseen. I think he looked very energetic in the Sunderland game though so hopefully it’s working for him.

Her role was literally explained last night. She is there to put things in place, to get the players to training and to games, in the best condition.
Covering off their diets, sleeping habits, rehabilitation protocols from injuries, their strength and conditioning programmes in the gym, managing their workloads and mental health too. The things that make a professional athlete, a professional.

That is the role of head of performance across the country, and Doug spelled it out last night. She probably doesnt even attend games, she doesnt need to other than from the perspective of supporting the team. She has no role on a match day

Not really, it's probably just pointing out when people blame her for nonsense. Strangely it's when people can't accept that Robins has gone or could be at fault so want somebody else to blame.

if all of the players are overweight for example, she deals with nutrition so of course. The point is blame her for stuff in her remit.

It's like when people used to shout at SISU for absolute nonsense rather than stuff they should and could have been blamed for.

For anything good he said, he ruined it when he was laughing saying he'd be off if we got relegated. Time and a place for jokes and last night wasn't one of them.

One other thing to take from last night was how involved Austin actually is

never would you expect head of recruitment to be part of the panel alongside king

is he the one advising King from a footballing side? If so we are bang in trouble

his cv is not great. he has had more positions than lati. additionally, interesting that he completed a course in technical directors licence

Considering it was a fans forum organised to explain the reasoning behind the sacking of Mark Robins & address wider issues around recruitment policy, I would think it entirely appropriate for DK to have his head of recruitment up there with him.

Part of being a peformance director will be looking at what's not working and having it changed. I'd say that is being done.

But for me that’s where the defensive thing has come from. When I’ve explained the role in the past. It gets batted aside into “well we’ve been shit” etc.

I don’t think people are sexist, I think it’s a deep misunderstanding of the role
Maybe that's what her job title should've been

I can understand the confusion and the question raised last night
but that’s the job title in all sports, it only appears to be with Coventry City where nobody can grasp the title

To be fair to him, when you've had people having a pop at you and in a pressured environment, an excuse to laugh to relieve any stress is understandable.

Some people might be doing that, but I'm not. I have only asked a few questions and pointed out that due to some people going overboard on her, others are also piling in on any criticisms without actually listening to what is being said.

Like I said, it is a small bearing compared to some other variables, but it is still worth a conversation given what has been happening this season.

Yeah she also manages the medical staff, sports science staff and data analytics staff. Rather than Robins having to manage everyone.

Go down and see what she does, I reckon King will have his Lycra out to wrestle you on the crash mats though.

I don't think drilling down into the granular minutiae of the sports science element is going to give us many answers to the wider issue. There may well be aspects there that need improvement but the elephant in the room needed addressing before anything else is their thinking I'm guessing. The coaching needs sorting before they decide what the players are having for breakfast

What’s wrong with going on holiday?

She’s entitled to annual leave and it’s the start of an international break and the players are probably off too.

So why did you mention it?

Sorry, was she there yesterday? My understanding was she was on holiday an therefore couldn't speak for herself - so it is relevant here isn't it?

Stop being so desperate to defend her and looking for problems where there aren't any. It's getting silly.

I can’t. If someone sees “performance” in her job title and then links that directly to performance on the pitch I have difficulty understanding how someone with such simplistic thinking functions.

Yes she’s going to help players reach peak performance and fitness through various avenues but it’s pretty obvious the manager and coaching staff have most influence on the pitch isn’t it?

Im not desperate to defend her but her being on holiday was used recently to highlight the club being in turmoil.

More than a few have taken their own assumptions, turned them into facts and got worked up about them.
