Austin will be judged on our recruitment, the same as King will on where we go from here. His answer to loans was recruitment 101. We will see how many players at the end of the season have increased in value, as at the moment it is only the free transfers and Eccles who came through the youth system. Maybe add Hadji to that list. Sheaf's injuries have dragged him back, MVE has been defensively awful this season, Simms not firing and the rest largely unimpressive. I am sure King will want a value added Head Coach.

It isn't just injuries dragging Sheaf back. He was massively overrated in the first place. What we are seeing now is a hard crash-landing of reality.

I know you aren't his biggest fan but he is a very good player at this level when he is fully fit and playing well

Agreed, he's not 20+ million and Premier League bound quality though, as many were claiming - and it made the whole thing worse. Very limited in many areas and any smart club would sell for a nominal fee and reinvest at this point. With those expectations, he holds us back massively. A terrible captain as well.

I would disagree, injuries apart he has been really good for us. At first he was culpable for some really bad defensive lapses and has not been at his best this season, but overall a quality player. There is a reason Luton wanted to buy him when they were in the Prem. You often make your most influential player the Captain.

He isn't captain material for me either , an area we are still light .
And there isn't a lot between him and Eccles but both are top end Championship players

It was a terrible decision to make him Captain unfortunately.

Also, Luton, on the way back to the Championship, were the only team in for him. It says it all, and shows how wrong our fans were.

He's by far the most overrated player I've seen for CCFC for a long time. He's honestly not looked that worse this season than I've observed previously. It just looks worse because the whole team is playing poorer. He has some great attributes but also is a very limited player in many areas.

We don't really have anyone in the squad that's captain material who is a guaranteed starter with everyone fit, except Bidwell. Albeit a lot of fans wouldn't have him in the starting 11.

Watch Josh Eccles, he's always in the refs ear, he has a go at team mates when they fk up and he encourages as well when he feels it necessary
Coupled with the way he's playing I'd have no qualms making him skippper

Whoever marketed him this summer has some serious questions to answer, we've ended up with a demotivated player IMO!

Potentially, but it feels like we need a bit more experience in there. Bidwell has played over 400 more professional games than Eccles. Eccles has been right up there as our most consistent performers this season

The most obvious captain for me is Van Ewijk. Infectious enthusiasm. As far as Austin is concerned it was obvious questions about recruitment would come up - seems logical enough.

Let's see how he performs now MR has gone. A new manager might be just what he needs. ....... or not.

Thought Eccles game dropped when he was captain. Let him focus on himself and lead by example.

Not really strange that she sat in on the interviews, is it?
Maybe, maybe not. King last night defended Dr Roberts and said things like how fit the players were and that she had no involvement in team affairs or team performance. So why would she be helping choose the coaches if that's not an area she's involved with?

There was just so many inconsistencies last night. MR was given the blame for the new coaching set-up, yet a new coach will have to work with that set-up. Which suggests (and seemed to be alluded to) that the problem is the quality of the coaches that were hired. And if that's the case why has MR been castigated for it but Dr Roberts defended to the hilt?

Somewhere along the line something doesn't add up.

One thing is puzzling me. If MR couldn't work with AV and needed a new number to but one couldn't be found, why were several coaches instead and not just keep looking? Finding adequate replacements for members of staff in industry often take a while to find. You just don't give up and sack the line manager. I get that results are important and we couldn't risk relegation, but giving up on recruiting the right person is a big miss. Now we are recruiting for two instead of one

I believe king said boateng and carr were bought in to replace Lawrence and Mark choose to promote dempsey and the other one from the academy before the press season tour as they couldn't find a suitable no 2 in the summer.

It then seems king told robins he needed a proper number 2 (probably as he didn't think the current coaches were elite) and they again couldn't find one, partly king said because all the good candidates they interviewed wanted Robins job apparently.. even though the job role was advertised as a number 2. Not sure i believe that bit fully at all!!

King basically said they interviewed people he would’ve happily signed but Robins didn’t want any of them.

But that's just my point. If you keep looking, someone will eventually turn up that's suitable

As soon as you think of ‘the structure’ as the departmentalised ‘Football/Performance/Recruitment/etc’ and not the literal number of coaches, it makes sense of most of your points.

Agree we have no real captain which isn't ideal at all, and i agree i think Sheaf would be better just concentrating on his own game, as we haven't seen last seasons standards again yet, but...

Luton we're not the only team in for him in the summer, he had a couple of genuine offers from the premier league which the club turned down, he may well have wanted to leave hence his downturn since

My understanding was that he was only leaving if it was to the PL, and if the offer was respectable enough. Therefore the only way that second part is true, which I highly doubt, is if the offers were pitiful.

Sadly the reputation he has with some fans didn't match the reality of his transfer value. If it had there is no way Doug doesn't sell, particularly if the player is willing. It's a shame as reinvested money from that sale could have really helped us this season.

I imagine he would have only left for the prem yes, unless a silly offer for him personally came in from elsewhere (see O'Hare).

He had offers from the Premier league, so either he turned them down for one reason or another (not sure why he would), or Doug stopped it, maybe Doug had an inflated view on his fee as well and wanted too much

All broadly irrelevant now as he's still ours and we just need him to up his performances, whilst we have no more real depth at CM!

It was probably bollocks, but we don't really know for sure do we? Some people have listened to Doug and taken everything he's said as absolute fact.

It still doesn't change my point. He inferred they weren't top level coaches. How do you think they feel turning up for work today? The Performance Director has been defended to the end of earth, but other than the childish comment about coming to Ryton in order to deflect, she still holds some responsibility.
Well, he said they need a head of coaching / player development. The coaches themselves will see

Do you know anything about recruitment? It’s the same as having someone from HR/another team being present as a sense check.

Van Ewijk's head drops quite easily, he's not captain material.

King did say last night that he wasn't averse to bringing in a player to improve the team if no sell on value, didn't he?
Lets see if he practices what he preaches. Can't think of any up to now. The older players we were linked to in the Summer still had a bit left in the tank.
I heard one of the reasons he did not resign O'Hare was his value would be diminished at the end of his contract. (Disclaimer, probably bullshit).

Luton were in the Premier league but it was fairly obvious they'd have needed a miracle to stay up.
