At this point I don’t know much about him management wise to know if I should be excited, but I assume the positive reaction so far is based on something?

Also he's coached at Man U and PSV, The Championship is a different beast. At least Lampard has had experience in this league before.

Still would prefer Carsley. There's a lot of talk of what a good coach he is, hence his England caretaker role. Lives locally, played for the club. If RVN or Lampard get us promoted, and keep us up, they'll be wanted men, and are more likely to jump ship.

Tbf "getting us promoted and keeping us up" is getting way ahead of ourselves.

I'm not sure we're in a position to be worrying about the consequences of that happening just yet.

I think the way he conducted himself at Utd was full of class - tough spot to be in, at a club he loves, but he maintained his dignity and was a proper professional even once it became clear that they were going to be bringing in Amorim.

This interview he did with Gary Neville also painted him in a good light - he seems intelligent, level-headed, and keen to learn in a way that I haven’t generally seen from the English players of that same generation as they have moved into management - Gerrard, Lampard, Rooney, et al. his background is also super humble and I think he would understand Coventry as a city and a people from that perspective

I also think his experience and knowledge of the Eredivisie will be useful beyond what we’d get from other candidates - if he can bring us a few more MvEs that would be ace, plus his name is likely to attract talent, I’m not sure that’s the case for many others on the list of candidates.

I’ll tell you what, I will love it if we get him. I think he has the potential to be a fantastic manager/head coach/whatever we’re calling it.

If they can get us promoted and stay up I don't give a monkeys what they do next

To be fair if they get us up and keep us up, fair play happy for them to go at that point.

I think the idea of not choosing someone because if they are successful other clubs will tempt them away is folly.

This happens at every level of football.

If we choose someone who gets us promoted, we then stay in the Premier League, and he then leaves i’m 100% ok with that.

Wonder if we can add a huge release fee in his contract to make it profitable for us if he does go. Not just that, if we can attract this level of manager, we could do it again

Start with his playing career. Arguably one of the best strikers of all time and played at the top, listening to people from the top and being around the top, in numerous countries. Now we all know this doesn't translate into good coaching/management but it always holds a good starting point. Got his stripes through the youth set up so not just launched into a managers job because of his name (Lampard), and then managed one of the best sides in Holland and also managed in the Champions League. Done enough there to be asked to help Holland at international tournaments so he has experience at that level there too. Finally, short stay at Man Utd being assistant, but good enough to be asked to be a caretaker after ETH left.

If you want a genuine answer, that's it. He's played elite level, managed elite level and I'm amazed we're even linked with him. Of course you can pick holes in the above, we could do that for any candidate really, but that's my opinion on it.
