Of course every appointment is a risk, but for me you have to load the deck in your favour, so a manager who has club experience at some level. Also, Carsley is only used to working with the cream of the crop.

If it is him then fair enough I'd back him, but he certainly wouldn't be my choice.
he's managed us twice before in a caretaker role so he knows about working with non elite players

Load the deck in your favour? Can't see us bringing that many more players in.
I don't mean Doug King's deck. It's a saying.

Yeah, 12 years ago. He was caretaker for a matter of weeks. If he'd never played for us or didn't live locally he wouldn't get a mention on here. We are hovering above the relegation zone with a "third of a season gone" to quote others. I'd rather get someone experienced in than risk getting someone who's last Club experience was a dozen years ago. Just seems mad to me. But, there you go, what will be will be.

Lee Carsley's last role full time role in coaching at club level was with Man City's academy in 2017, where he managed the likes of Foden, Sancho and various others.

He did have a caretaker spell at Birmingham at the tail end of 2017, but left in 2018.

I agree that it's a risk taking Carsley given his little club experience as a head coach, but we will see.

Yeah, I was pointing out the last time he managed a club team, not coached. That was 12 years ago for a few weeks. Not for me, but who knows what will happen.

Some great opinions on here, most of them are completely bonkers. But surely we should be wanking all day and night even thinking that the current England caretaker manager is possibly going to be our next manager. What an absolute moment for the club.

Wasn't all rosy:

"There was also criticism of the play of the 24-time national champions throughout the season. The tension in Eindhoven rose to boiling point in the week after the cup final, as was reported earlier this week via De Telegraaf . Six players allegedly went to the club management behind Van Nistelrooij's back to express their dissatisfaction.

The group of players is said to have had serious doubts about Van Nistelrooy's performance. There was also talk about Van Nistelrooy's troubled relationship with his assistants Ooijer and Rutten. This is said to have had a negative impact on the atmosphere within the team for a long time."

Neither would be my first choice, but I'd be as happy with one as the other, I think they're very similar in profile and experience
They won the league the year after he left having sold a bunch of his players for big money. Not sure if that goes down as a +ve or -ve.

Used to work with his cousin, asked him if he'd heard anything, and he thought he was going back to the U21's.

Did say he holds his( deck of) cards close to his chest though, didn't know he was managing England til he saw it on the BBC!

I genuinely can’t believe that some are listing being local as a reason for him to get the job ffs.
I think you misunderstand, what people mean is that he is likely to want to come to us as he wouldn't have to relocate, it makes no difference after that. I suppose it may be cheaper fro the club if it is normal to pay for accommodation to relocate someone, not sure though.

Most players and managers don’t actually relocate every time they move club though.

Local local local. It’s about what suits the club better, not him. The club shouldn’t really be giving a shit where he’s from.
@curly_tom another one for you

(The point being made is that there’s a good chance Carsley may have applied / would want the job from a convenience point of view for him, not the other way round)

Lol 😆 joking aside though, Carsley being local will have no relevance to the clubs decision. It probably will have a lot of relevance to whether he would apply / want it though

Yep. But I think residence is a really lazy factor to consider. People can’t be that convinced by his managerial/coaching ability if they really think where he lives even comes into the conversation.

Come on people, whoever the new head coach is will be based on what the club can afford, not where they live and who they are.

I dunno man, I think people have always been more enticed by a job if it means not having to relocate their family or have a huge logistical commute, in any walk of life. Anyway, we’ll probably end up with someone else and this chat was entirely futile lol

Football is one line of work where location is not really considered. I suppose it applies to film and tv etc also. People assume that living in temporary accommodation is fine if you’re a manager. See your family every other week and maybe only when you get to fly home. It’s weird. I wouldn’t want to do it. But then again they get paid huge money so maybe I would.

Where someone lives is only a small factor to consider, but I don't get why people thinks it's completely irrelevant.

All other things being equal, would it be better if the Head Coach was settled happily long term in the area, or commuting from afar, spending a lot of time way from home/family and juggling his work with travel and accommodation arrangements?

Met a Leicester fan tonight. Had some really good banter with him and no love lost on both sides. It was actually nice to hear another’s (outsiders) opinion on MR sacking. And yes it was a Leicester fan but he genuinely thinks we will do shit now lol.
Not what I wanted to hear but as we speak he is under my bed and I will let him out once he has repented 😜.
All serious though he is a sergeant major (in or great forces) and puts £50 on us each season getting promoted!
So for all us die hard fans least we know when don’t succeed some tosser is losing money…! 🥳

Of course some nob in the Times writes an article that Carsley should go for a Club (Manager) job. He thinks Coventry is too small for him and should wait to get the Everton job.

Why would Carsley give up the Engjand youth team - he’s working with the best medical team at a training ground with the best facilities - he only gets them together irregularly , generally gets them
All as not many are first team players - as opposed to 2 games a week - infinite press pressure and he’s got a good chance of the big job after Teuchal - once you jump out of the England role it’s all hard work - I’m sure he’s getting paid a decent wage - he doesn’t strike me as a public speaker
