Mark Robins Comments (11 Viewers)

I think Robins did more for this club than anyone in decades, and IMHO dismissing him was unfair, rash and an unnecessary risk to the club.

However I'm with you on this point Nick. Jimmy Hill created the Sky Blues, galvanised the whole city in support of the club, and transformed the whole of football itself in a number of ways. His statue makes sense. Mark Robins was an absolute gem of a manager, and deserves some kind of permanent recognition. But not a statue IMHO.
Oh I wasn't even against a statue either. I was just pointing out the "hearing is voice" stuff.

I know people are going to 'it's CCFC not Robins FC - you melt!' me for this but watching that video I had this sudden realisation that I probably wouldn't have sacked him even if Lampard came with guaranteed quick win promotion. It was a journey we were on together - it kinda feels like I've shanked a mate in search of glory.

I agree, we've done him dirty, no question.

Robins was Coventry City and we were on the journey together. Hearing his comments are like a gut punch. If we do ever get promoted, I will be ecstatic but I'll know it should have been with Robins.

Really?

People do realise that it was his job that he would have been getting paid nicely for and will receive a payout. I get that it was a long time and achieved some great things but he wasn't here voluntarily like a mate.

How exactly has he been "done dirty"?

Fair enough, I get that and agree.

But you call people weird all the time, then say you aren't against a statue of the bloke you called for to be sacked?

What's your point?

Somebody could do something good in 2021 for example and then be sacked in 2024 if things change.

Sillet got sacked

But did a minority of fans keep calling for his head, and then support erecting a statue for him?

Nice play on words. I said I wasn't against it and by that I mean in the future. I'm not campaigning for one.

Like I said, weird. attempt at a "gotcha".

Where did I say he had been done dirty or wasn't being well paid? I just don't share your whiny fixation on results. It was an adventure, I was enjoying it.

I think a lot wanted him sacked at the time. I think the statue is a bit silly to be honest

Yeah results are kind of important in football.
And tbh I would back Robins to outperform Lampard all day. All day. But football is all about more than that. It's about that buzz and excitement we've had for 7 years. It's about getting up in the morning and not being able to wait for the game. Right now that has gone for me. Maybe I'll get it back; maybe I won't.

So you're not arsed about the football club you support because the Manager has gone?

There's a game tomorrow, no different regardless of who is in the dugout when it comes to looking forward to it.

Crikey you pretend not to get my point when I accurately quote you in my response to you. Then choose to answer it by picking up my response to Grendel who had thrown in one of his red herrings.

Yep more class in his little finger than Doug showed for the first 15 mins of the discussion!
Was King ever going to be able to get away from that discussion without bringing up the things you now say in hindsight are classless? In fact some of the questions you compiled from this forum were based on assumptions of things that now seem to be incorrect. Can you imagine the backlash if he'd have dodged these issues altogether?

What on earth would we get a statue for him for. He’s not dead.

I have already said I don't think a statue of Robins is appropriate. You then chucked in Sillett, who I hadn't mentioned, and now you are back on Robins again I presume?

I don't think I even disagree with you or Nick about any of this. What bugs me is people getting labelled as 'weird' and/or 'embarrassing'. Strangely enough, I find it weird and embarrassing!

I don't feel particularly excited about the game tomorrow, no. Tbh I just feel kinda exhausted and fed up with the whole thing and apprehensive about the future. You don't get to sit there and say 'its the club you support - you've got to be excited.' That's just not how it works. You're either excited or you are not.

Meanwhile half the world is dying of starvation, poor sods are having bombs and missiles dropped on them not to mention the million and one other problems the world has.
It's a game of football.
