I do think Eccles is a good player and as the academy seems to have dried up for a while, it is good that we have one in our team on merit and not because he is purely a Coventry lad, like we have had in the past with the likes of Kevin Thornton and Curtis Wynter etc

Michael Doyle wore 17 when signed the first time in 2003/04 and continued with it for the next season. The season afterwards
(2005/06) He moved to number 8 and was captaining that season if my memory serves. Then he wore 8 until he was loaned out to Leeds in 2009/10. He then had 8 again when he returned in League 2 in 2017/18. I am a bit of a Doyle fan if you can not tell and was my favourite player after McSheffrey left in 2006.

TLDR: Doyle did not wear 4 for us. He wore 17 and then 8

I’m guessing you’re the one shouting “forward” at every opportunity? If you took off your rose-tinted glasses, you’ld see that the standard of football and technical ability are now light years ahead of your good old days. Added to that, I’m sure you would also remember the dreadful pitches, the incessant backpasses, no incentive to try and win games (as only 2 points for a win), unpunished thuggery on the pitch, poor crowds, appalling stadiums.
Is it perfect? Of course not - we’ve got VAR, weak referees not enforcing the laws/guidance, undoubtedly more playacting and the game being run by Sky. But on balance, it’s a massively better sport to watch. And before you ask, I’ve been watching since 1964 so suffered through the old (but not good) days.

Missed all of pre-season, chucked into a team in disarray and expected to lead the ship. Give him 5-6 months of injury free football and his value will dramatically rise again. (contract dependant of course)

Well we will have to disagree there I think. He's doing everything I've always been pointing out, I just think after so long of looking through rose-tinted glasses, his weaknesses are now a bit more well known and widely accepted. You couldn't criticise him last season without causing a meltdown, but I'm genuinely not seeing a huge difference.

Even those one dimensional stat websites are giving him high scores still, but they don't, and never have, painted the full picture. In the same playground, Basette was rated our lowest performing player on futmob on Saturday - the same website most of the Sheaf clique use all the time.

I really think there was always a hype train that people jumped on and got carried away with.

It's a toss up between him and Wright for POTS so far this season and he is a natural successor to the armband when Sheaf does eventually move on

Touching 150 apps aged only 24 he will go on to make as many appearances as he wants for us I reckon, glad the club have got this done and finalised

King said basically that Stamenic was a proposed replacement for Sheaf. I think people are confused if they think we’ve planned to add another money signing to the midfield. Suggests Sheaf was close to going.
