No, put tactics played by elite teams filter down to other teams.

Out of possession it's a back 4 with another bank of 4 in front of them. The issue sadly is the lack of defensive ability of our left backs.

We do need to be better on transition and on the left, hoping Binks will get this role.

But as you’ve mentioned if we don’t have issues with possession, might be worth us using that as a strength to help us defend more and control more games.

Can’t think of many games we’ve controlled the pace off. Even Boro I thought we lost control at moments in the game and we won that 3-0

To be fair I think the pressure came about a lot on Saturday through of centre mid trying to be a bit too ambitious with the pass and our shape being too disrupted to funnel back.

CBs on a whole seem decent on the ball and Dovin if the stats weren’t lying to me has good pass completion stats.

If this is the new shape, we will need the cms to sit a bit deeper to help support the defence if one loses the ball in a double pivot

It's not just the CBs though, everyone across the backline is culpable.

The point of 3-2-5 build up is that you have a solid central base of 5 players able to stop transitions when you lose the ball

Whilst I don't think our CBs are top 6 in the Div level our FB group has to be relegation level. A starting LB and a backup RB would be a good Jan imo.

Though I agree with you to a certain extent and players at this level should know where to be without the ball. However, good coaching installs out of possession play vigorously theses days and our lot look clueless at times.

That's why we were changing to a 4-4-2 in defence which should be more solid than a base 3-4-2-1 system as the wing backs in the 3-4-2-1 can get caught too far field.

It'll take time but there are reasons why teams what that shape. We just need to practice it as on Saturday the midfield where in the wrong positions and didn't cover as well as they should.

We also have a problem of centre mids being drawn into the attacking play too much. If that becomes 1 in front of the 3 defenders then we’re outrageously exposed.

A lot of our goals conceded have come from us giving the ball away in our own half and the defence have been immediately overloaded. We have got away with several too.

A lot has been down to individual errors, rather than tactics or coaching.

Yeah, fair point. You do need CB's that are comfortable on the ball in that kind of possession game.

And we all know that Thomas is always prone to poor misplaced passes at any given point.

If the players are not following instructions haul them off but I guess the problem is we are not playing well and we have lower level players in the majority who are getting paid a fair wack so they are possibly more than happy to sit there on the bench instead of fighting for the team. In my experience when you play with better players they want to win more and it rubs off on you, being in a successful team definitely spurs you on fo sure but its catch 22 to get to that point

Not really as our recruitment team won't stop scouting. Also there's option 2 and its just complete bollocks and we are just being randomly name dropped, as is often the case in these links.

Recruitment teams literal job is to scout for positions and players constantly. No point waiting a month for Lampard to ask for a certain position then have to start a lengthy scouting assignment when all other clubs are doing the exact same thing.
