Damascus falls (2 Viewers)

Wow. Syria, Russia and Iran have played a dangerous game by deliberately fostering the rise of ISIS as a counter weight to the “moderate“ opposition.

Now that ISIS has collapsed, a renewed opposition has been able to make progress.

Another failed state in the making :(

I think the world needs to be careful what we wish for. The overthrow of so-called despots like Gaddafi and Saddam, and now Assad, leave vacuums which have the potential to be populated by other actors which could cause further instability and threats to geopolitical stability.
HTS has been on the UK's list of banned terrorist organisations since forging alliances with al Qaeda and then ISIS. While HTS appear to have broken away from them (though they are in complete disarray nowadays), just because their leader is going to change his name to something slightly less "jihadi" doesn't mean that the new islamist leadership in Syria is going to be any less abhorrent towards certain sections of the population than the Taliban is in Afghanistan.
Our enemy's enemy is not necessarily our friend. We backed the Taliban against the Mujahiddin, don't forget. See where that got us!

This is so right
What is a just war and what is worth risking our own peace and security to influence

Looks like a perfect place for the Gazans, maybe?
Who knows maybe part bigger plan.
The be honest you wouldn’t put it past the Israeli government to think it’s another place they have a divine right to occupy.

This is excellent news for asylum seekers they will be able to return in safety.

Well you'll be very pleased as there are reports of people in the UK (and mainland Europe) returning to Syria.

The old "Israel defending itself" by bombing the fuck out of other nations! I didn't realise that they had annexed the Golan Heights in 1981. It's not fucking theirs! Need to drive them out of there and back across the border.

Israel hung onto the Golan Heights after Syria's failed attempt to attack them from that direction. Previously, the GH overlooked Israeli kibbutzim and other villages in the Galilee, and were a source of frequent sniping.

Looks like they've wiped out the Syrian airforce and navy to avoid them falling into hostile hands.

We would do exactly the same if placed in the same situation - or perish.

Its good to see Syrian women being able to celebrate the new situation within their country without the obligation to cover themselves up. I hope they can all move forward now to create a decent homeland for all people and the Islamic hard liners don’t ruin it as per Afghanistan.
