Depends how useless the pupils are in the first place. You can't make something of quality out of terrible materials.

Is he coaching JDS and Sakamoto? Both are so predictable, one dimensional and weak. Is he coaching Sheaf in every game to make a terrible pass which immediately over loads our defenders?

A caller after the match asked Oggy what our goalkeeping coach was doing , as our keepers have been so poor ,noticed Oggy dodged the question.

Definitely would not be unhappy with a change in goalkeeping coach but is it that simple. I'm not sure a coach can be so bad at his job he can actually make players worse to the extent we have seen with Moore and Collins.
It feels like something else has happened but fuck knows what as for it to happen to one keeper is unusual. For it to happen to two at the same club in quick succession is pretty much unheard of.

I think the comparison is apples and pears. Moore was a decent keeper then had a loss in confidence and form There were obviously off field problems.
Collins has just been dodgy from day one and time has shown him up as a crap keeper. Too many people had gone over the top with criticising Wilson they bigged up Collins and made excuses for him last year. When it was clear he was a terrible buy.

Wasn’t it is said that Williams was also coaching the defence maybe he should concentrate on what he knows(hopefully) and we bring in a real defensive coach even on a contract until the summer.

Agreed - of course, you have be made of certain "stuff" to want to be a keeper, like throwing yourself around and having footballs kicked at you very hard, and there will always be good shots, unlucky deflections and defenders going AWOL that you can't do much about, but there are things all of our keepers in recent years have been singularly incapable of improving upon. GK basics like:-
Catching crosses, corners, etc. in the 6yd box
Knowing when to come out to catch balls in the wider penalty area
Knowing that there are times when you should catch and when you can punch
If you are going to punch, actually make contact with the fucking ball and get some distance and direction on it
Have some sort of command of the penalty area
Talk to/shout at the defence when they aren't picking people up
Be capable of defending your near goalpost
Being able to hold on to a shot from time to time, instead of palming it to the opposition
If it is part of the team's playing strategy, be able to pass out from the back to one of your own team so that they have time and space to turn and move forward
Those ARE things that can be taught on the training pitch, by the goalkeeping coach, and were ALL mistakes made by Collins yesterday, and haven't been great probably since Westwood.

Let's face it hardly anybody on here knows whether any of our coaches are any good or not.
One, they know nothing about coaching and two they have never seen them coach. Their theories are based on pub talk.
It’s the last refuge of fans who have run out of things to criticise now that different players and different managers have failed to turn things around.

I assume this is one for the summer window.
Do we know for sure he’s the defence coach?
If so, what specifically about his coaching isn’t right?
I just want to deal in facts - which coach is responsible for which facet of play? Is Williams solely in charge of all our defensive work? Or does he just work with the defenders? Does he tell Lampard how our team should defend? How is his coaching style different from Dennis Lawrence’s? What part of his coaching regimen is failing?
I’d be genuinely interested to learn the answers to these questions (I assume you can enlighten me). Otherwise it’s just angry fans shouting at a black box.

Having a specific 'defensive coach' is only a recent thing in football generally, the whole team is responsible for defending and the manager / head coach should be thinking about how not to leave us so exposed for eg Norwich's second goal. I'm not sure it can be put down solely to Williams to be honest.

Allen hadn't played for months and we were struggling to put 2 passes together. I couldn't believe he never bought a sub on on 90 mins. Torp for Allen, slow the game down and stick some tackles in
I find it hard to believe that Aled Williams - or Dennis Lawrence, for that matter - is responsible for our defensive organisation. Surely it's down to the manager/head coach?
