It’s fascinating how people defend their priors isn’t it? Sorry, dipping in and out whilst at work. The Police I was referring to, they were seeping information when their normal rhetoric is not to offer anything until all the facts were known, so my question is not only why, but presumably they already knew more than they were revealing (which I accept isnt uncommon), but other than quelling public opinion, to what end and who was enabling the information? With something so sensitive, I'd assume they probably do have to run things past government officials before releasing any statement.

I think that's the point, they started badly albeit with the right intentions, then kept going. We'd all love to buy a bottle of hindsight, but I suspect things might've been better to say almost nothing. Sadly we'll never know.

I think it was intentional to try and calm things down but people clearly knew more and with the stuff coming out from people who knew him or lived by him, it didn't match up with the little Christian angel persona. That's why it was making things worse and probably driving people towards the riots.
I'm not saying it's right, either.

There were ongoing riots Rob. That was the difference. What was dripping fed was facts that disproved the cause of those riots. You’re certainly right that no one believed it though, because we’ve got a populace primed to only believe social media grifters and not authoritative sources.

The point is that the flames were fanned with petrol.
Locals already knew who he was and were posting about him and things were getting deleted. People were getting the "He was a choir boy" thing thrown at them when people who knew him were saying he was calling for Genocides at school and was kicked out for bringing a knife into school and going back to attack somebody with a hockey stick. At this point, the police would have known full well he was producing ricin in his house ffs. He was known to police and they would have known all of this within minutes of the attack.
I get it, did they want to avoid community tensions? If anything they stirred them up much more.
