If we’re serious about getting up the table and out of this league in the coming seasons, we need a better sub than Bassette. BTA is a better player (right now) than Bassette so selling him with no replacement weakens the squad.

If BTA starts 8 of the next 11 games or so (as Bassette had done) he’ll have a chance to show his quality and his worth.

He’s nowhere near as bad a player as people like to make out on here.
BTA creates panic in defences but is a one footed striker who isn't very accurate. Bassette is a young player that isn't the finished article but needs a bit of game time. Both have their uses but are not good enough to be 1st choice striker.

Wright is at a totally different level to the pair of them but could strike up a good partnership with either. Both would make space for him with their runs.

So, allegedly Eustace has made an offer for BTA. What would it take for us to let him go?

£3 -£4 mill? More? Less? Do you think Robins and Stoke will now make an offer too, the window is closing soon and they probably both need to get a striker in.

Biggest issue with Bassette is he's light weight, depends on the ref for some empathy (doesn't happen often) and constantly gets caught offside, incredibly frustrating when we are pushing forward, or need an outlet.

The cool penalty shows he has the right mentality, just a) no physicality; b) poor positional awareness; and c) piss poor link up play.

BTA isn't great linking up either, but he's technically better IMHO and lets be honest, none of our forwards are currently linking well. Think both are fairly equal on workrate so just calling out the differences.

We should be looking to make a small profit given the interest and there is limited available proven strikers in January.

BTA is good enough to be a first choice striker. Let’s not forget he was WBA’s top scorer last season. He’s not going to put up 15-20 goals a season

If everyone is available, my front 3 would be EMC-Simms-Wright and Saka, BTA would be the go too role players from the bench.

Bassette, in my view, will become a good player, but he isn’t ready to make a big impact yet.

To be fair might be the idea as we are 8th in the form table over ten games. Definitely not at risk imo of going down so might be better to spend wiser in the summer
im starting to think that way also. Be good to get 1/2 in, especially in midfield area just to give fresh legs alone.

Depending who goes in summer, FL could have circa 20m+ to re invest, plenty to put together a deck. As we are seeing, this month especially is not a good time for deals. Tom Cannon £10million plus - that makes haji £20m.

My guess for the window is no movement now until the last couple of days when we get Rak-Sakyi on loan till the end of the season. Chelsea seem to be waiting to see how there squad shapes up come the end of the window before letting any youth/fringe players go. I saw in there matchday squad yesterday Guiu and George who we we're tentatively linked with were on the bench.

Regarding MVE, Sky are reporting with Kyle Walker going to AC Milan, Fulham are interested in Emerson Royal who is at Milan.

I don't believe Fulham will go for MVE and Royal, so one less interested party potentially.

Not sure that it would be too bad a thing if there were no signings in this window with key players to return from injury. Whilst still possible a promotion challenge is unlikely as is being dragged in to a relegation scrap. Financially would make sense too if there are no significant outgoings. The anti Doug brigade no doubt would have a field day if there were no additions but some of them are fixated on one thing and not the long term health of the club.

The narrative is already changing. Before the window we were apparently desperate for at least another CM, CB and RB and now it’s OK a if we don’t get any.

I called it early Burroughs and Howley would be our “signings”

Can’t wait for us to sign nobody and the Doug apologists to retort with “well Lampard clearly doesn’t feel he needs to add to the squad”

I’d rather sign no one than introduce two 33 year olds that haven’t played a league game all season.

Or an 18 year old unproven player from a premier league club on loan who we have to play and who clearly isn’t good enough for Championship football.

Or any player that clearly doesn’t add anything quality wise to our squad and whose wages are a ridiculous waste of resources.

But yeah sign any of the above just to appease those short sighted supporters who still think actual football is like wanking off in their one bedroom flat playing Football Manger….

Better to do this than adopt your scatter gun "throw millions we haven't got " in an inflated window at recruiting new players.
We can only admire your Nostradamus like predictive powers

So you think there’s nobody available in January that could add to our squad
