Borderline negligent that we have no cover for MvE. Glad he got a rest but today shows how screwed we are without him.

Lati is not the answer, pre match an Ipswich fan I know said a lot their play comes through left wing, played out that way, we were so exposed

Can certainly see Sheaf out the door too. That will accumulate to 15 - 18 mill of funds also Vik windfall of another 6-8 mill. That’s around 25 mill with a few others leaving. I can see another summer of mass movement

hopefully this time round it’s quality over quantity with a couple loans thrown in too
Absolutely no way would the sales of Sheaf and MVE generate that much. 6 mill for the pair tops. Sheaf no more than 4 and MVE might be worth 2. He is not rated outside of Coventry.

My round trip to the game is 6-7 hours. I don't mind, but it does pig me off when we give away goals with basic amateurish defensive mistakes. Two against Leeds, 3 out of 4 today (I'll let them off Clark's first although that too should have been covered).

Dovin was good (again), Da Silva did keep Jayden Philodene fairly quiet. Unlike some I thought Tats had a good game, partly because he can control a moving football (it was amazing how many of these 'professional' footballers cannot or so it would seem). The rest just not at the races - particularly Eccles and Binks who were both dire. Eccles has limited ability to break up a defence. He is a functional cautious passer of the ball. That's ok if you have Hamer doing his stuff, but we haven't.

But my main gripe was the lack of speed of thought. The number of times a player would receive a ball in a position crying out for a first time pass. But no, the ball would be slowly and studiously controlled, and in that second or two the opportunity was gone. The pass required was then quite often made, but the defence by then had it covered. Leeds and to a lesser extent Ipswich today just thought more quickly. For a player of Lampard's pedigree he must have wanted to weep. The midfield cried out for Grimes - just a little precision would have been so nice.

See you all against QPR....

You forgot we will have to give £2m to the poor club that has the misfortune of taking over Wright's contract. He is not rated outside of the Cherry Tree.

Guessing Binks, Dasilva and Lati
I'm guessing Binks(for a decent fee), BTA(for a good fee) and JDS(for an adequate fee).

Lati is too versatile, capable at centre back or as a defensive midfielder and has a good personality that contributes positively to team spirit to ship out too easily, unless someone has offers a fee that can't be turned down. Yes he was poor tonight except for the goal.

Yep, I thought he was the best of a bad lot, was not losing the ball, made a few crosses, had a good shot and set up the overlap to make the cross a few times.

Its got to be Lati and Binks out if we’re looking for 2 new CBs

Honestly don’t think anyone comes out of today with any credit at all.

If you really wanted to push it, you could argue:

Rudoni - didn’t hide, decent technique and in tight situations as always, but wasted out left and poor set pieces today (unlike him)
Kitching - stepped out with the ball a few times and made space. Tried to get us playing from the back.

Also, other player observation;

Sakamoto - don’t get the pile on. He’s a right winger, playing in a weird shape with a RWB behind him who cant/wont overlap, which he needs to help make space. Also had one player ahead of him (BTA) and limited options when he was in possession. On the ball he was fine today. Let’s not judge until he’s back playing his role.

Lati - yes he has a shocker, but he’s never a RWB and it’s almost unfair asking him to play there.

JDS - his strength (and sometimes redeeming feature) was/is his technique and ability to play out of tight situations. But that wasn’t obvious today, loss of confidence/knows he’s going.

Is it unfair to expect lati to do the basics?

Agree, dare say Eccles days are numbered. He’s 6th choice now in the middle of the park as it is, had a chance today and blew it.

I don't disagree, but Sheaf is now 5th choice too, and many of our fans base are having trouble coming to terms with that.

Simply, we might not have seen it today, but we generally have much more quality in midfield now.

What? 😂 how have you come to that conclusion? Sheaf is one of the first names on the team sheet in any championship side. Christ, we go on a 4 game run where other midfielders (Allen/Torp) have a slight purple patch and score a couple of goals. We sign a midfielder that has played a sum total of 28 minutes for us and you’ve deduced that one of the most technical CDMs we’ve had for probably 15 years becomes 5th choice.

Just like Jacob Murphy he’s another player not good enough for us but will somehow go on to play for better teams at a higher level. Meanwhile we’re told that Eccles is “a great player” - 😂😂😂

Sakamoto is the same one trick pony he was before his injury. Teams had already started to work him out. Dasilva hasn't got a truck. Lati is decent in several positions, but never a RWB?

Lampard's selections were odd today. Especially BTA as a loan striker.
I feel sorry for Sakamoto , that injury has clearly affected him so badly , he has I fear regressed but no blame on him. It does t stop him trying hard though as always but I would be letting him go in the summer

Hopefully we won't have to wait on players moving for funds to be readily available. It's entirely possible that many of these transfers might not materialise in the final weeks in the season.

Grimes coming in this window suggests hopefully not but there's a fairly sizeable rebuild in the summer needed and to put us in the best position possible we really need to be hitting the ground running straight away.

It was just naive to play such high lines against opposition like this and it concerns me that teams will quickly cotton on while FL persists with it. MVE aside the defenders are just not quick enough or even that great at sensing the danger.

Rudoni the least bad today.

They are cottoning onto it... Go back and watch the highlights of the past 4/5 games. The big chances we concede are on the whole fairly similar. Attacker makes a run in behind either on either flank or through the middle and is easily able to get a chance / cross away.

I've been banging on this drum for the past 5/6 weeks that the better sides will seriously punish us for it and that's happened.

The wins have peppered over what still remains a pretty poor defence. Zero ability to anticipate danger, very limited athleticism, horribly flat footed and generally not good enough.

On that last note, should be only based on the last time we pretty much a whole squad to build with only one CB on our book, and Godden and Tavares being our only Strikers.

If Matty Grimes is anything to base Lampard signings on should be excited

I wouldn’t be upset if all the CBs were shipped out in the summer. They’re just not good enough for where we want to be.

I thought Kitching was decent and I was very happy when he threw their bloke to the floor.

My guess is JDS will be one of them. Mostly because Bidwell’s got a new contract.
I think I’d actually keep Binks. I think he’s young enough to improve…just.
I think he would improve like most young players, given the time and the right coaching. I think it's more of a case that it was identified pretty quickly that we needed more experience in the midfield and defence, if we want to make the step up. Like most have been saying on here all season, the balance is off.
I don't think there will be a massive overhaul, we have a lot of players on decent contracts and hold all the cards. So unless some bids come in that we can't turn down, i think we'll be keeping a good spine.
Sounds like they just want to upgrade a few players, and fill the gaps we have now.
