Overall, it was an even game that could’ve went either way and we got out rub of the green! The only good corner we put in the box in the second half led to a goal and it was good to see we had routines that asked questions of their set piece defending in the first half.

In the first half, the shape didn’t look right because the midfield looked stretched, it missed Allen’s workrate and Rudoni isn’t at his creative best out wide so we couldn’t break QPR down. We looked much better when we switched to 4-2-3-1 and even more threatening when EMC came on. His runs in behind the defensive line gave us a great option that nearly led to a goal or two.

We’ll transition back into a 4-2-3-1 side as soon as EMC and then Haji is ready to return.

It’s was crying out for 4 at the back and I thought Frank had left it too late when he made the change. EMC being on the pitch and 4231 completely changed the atmosphere - QPR players and fans on edge.

Saka different player when RW. And after the away fans calling Frank a C-UNIT it’s was so so sweet for the goal to go in!

I didn't think bta was too good when came on but fairplay for hold up and pass to mve in rub up to winner. Nice acelration by mve to get into dangerous area too once he recovers the ball. Allowed us to win that final corner

Can I just ask did anybody else take today to just watch or concentrate on Grimes play? It was so nice being able to physically watch a player like him live for 90 mins (and support him). What a player we have got and if the 3.5-4 mill is true what a bargain! He made it look so easy in the middle, but watching his movement off the ball to make that space for every pass (he doesn’t give away) was a joy to watch. 👏🏻

Not suggesting he is on a similar plane to Busquets or Pirlo but the role in the side is so similar.
When we go 4-3-3 we will need legs alongside him like a Sheaf/Eccles or Allen , don't see him and Torp working with Rudoni in front of them

Let me be really really clear in what I'm saying. In no way shape or order was that game a smash and grab. Two teams played OK and mostly cancelled themselves out however from a chances perspective I thought we edged it. Anyone calling it a smash and grab I deem a numpty as I would if they had edged it in the end. I thought we were unlucky with the disallowed goal and we scored they didn't... We move on.
Yeah smash and grab is when you basically rob the points after being second best most of the game

Saka was RW all game to be fair, he sometimes struggles to impact games which was the case for most of the game. EMC was a lot more threatening and impactful in his cameo.

Sakamoto two best attributes in my view is his positioning and precision. He has that special quality of ending up at the right place, at the right time as he did for the offside ‘equaliser’. His second best attribute is where his shots can be so well placed, they sneak in. This is just my intuition, but I believe he’ll end up being a super sub for us.

Grimes is a proper player, we have been screaming for a type like him for years. He will make a big difference to the squad. Great to see EMC back he looks strong and confident makes him a really dangerous player.

I honestly believe that tonight Grimes was well off the player we'll see in the coming weeks.

Exciting times ahead.

Absolutely
Don't think Torp works with them

It’s more the shape in the first half. Having one striker and only 2 CMs to cover the distance in the middle third was imbalanced. It was probably a mistake to drop BTA. Our passing lines were lateral before we took Kitching off and Simms/BTA were isolated until EMC was on the wing.

Rudoni isn’t an out-and-out winger, tonight he was stuck on the left whereas in the prior 4-5 games he had free reign to drift to the left or right flank for the overloads.

With a full bill of health, Sheaf and Grimes start alongside Rudoni in a flat 3 or a 2-1 shape in the middle. Eccles and Grimes looked really balanced together and Sheaf is the better player out of himself and Eccles.

Yep, agreed and imo, this because our passing lanes were too lateral. We were back in the habit of passing side-to-side without penetrating a defensive shape. The 4-2-3-1 shape liberated about 2-3 players on the pitch when that tactical change was made.

Thought he played a bit deeper tonight, but he did things that go un noticed, your only as good as the players around you, give him some help and he’ll be quality for us

Yeah can only agree with this. In a sentimental way I hope he brings Eccles on in his all round game. Can only be a good thing either way.

Yeah def. I was just more on about his movement today before a pass. He reads the game (and own playe )so well. Was just really nice to see a proper seasoned and proven player. One without potential I guess 😊.

It’s a tough one with them 3 and all could work but what the best is only time will tell.

Whilst Sheaf is a Coventry City player, he will be a starter. As it happens, Grimes and Sheaf will complement one another. Sheaf is better defensively and Grimes has a better range of passing. It’ll almost like getting the band back together (Sheaf + Hamer).

Could be a huge three points that - Weren’t at our best but we found a way through, we’ve played better and not won at times this season

Also worth noting that we have played two matches since QPR last played, they were bound to be more fresh than us

Yeah goes without out saying as he’s club captain. But a lot has happened since his last game and the competition can only drive him on hopefully. I’m going to use that one “the band back together” love it 😊.

This only my opinion, Sheaf below par form was down to his injury and, frankly, the poor tactical setup that was responsible for multiple players underperforming.

Footballing brain, just does the simple things, if that’s his quiet game it’ll do for me

Yeah agree but without sounding patronising I won’t totally agree unless Grimes gets injured before end of season. Then I’m blaming like you for sure 😊.

QPR forum convinced our Bobby blatantly pushed the defender to the ground and the ref didn't give the foul.
He made sure they didn't pull his shirt off this time.

Just remembered QPR had a week off and we just played on Sat. So all things considered, it was a great achievement. Hope we can get another 3 points on Sat, but last time we played Sheff Wed in the league they also had 24 hrs less of rest and beat us in injury time. Just got to grind it out again.
