Overrated players (6 Viewers)

In recent times Todd “should be in the Prem” Kane takes some beating.

Arrived with high expectations, scored a fluke and then annoyed the rest of the squad.

(what was it that he did to “be lucky to get out alive”, anyone know?)
People were unfairly starting rumours about him sleeping with players wives, but the poor guy had a gambling addiction. May have owed some people which would fit that story if true, but I don't have knowledge of that part only speculating.

In that it was completely out of character and unsustainable.
The ex England player who played a few hundred games for Chelsea?

I thought he was just a thug who came to us for a final payday. But he was a level above everyone else.

Was Joe Cole overrated?
We had a great young team that year, but his signing felt like it disrupted the balance of the squad and we were then trying to build it around a 33 year old who was way past his best.
Seem to remember we were top of the league, but the season fell apart soon after that

I liked him tbh, Mowbray freezing him out was one of the more baffling decisions of his tenure
Jim O’Brien

we went to one of the sponsors days at the traing ground. Tony Mowbray was very open and honest about a whole lot of stuff.
Apparently he was a bully and a nasty piece of work that would blame everybody else and reduce the younger players to tears.

I am surprised no-one has mentioned our top rated super striker, Darius Henderson.

spent most of his time injured and the one time he was through on goal he just fell over.

Kasey "pointless stepover" Palmer

I mean everyone on here thought he was garbage we wouldn’t be able to give away and we got £1m for him so maybe he was underrated.

Nice guy by all accounts, incredibly talented and can boss a game.
If he can be arsed, which wasn’t often enough.

I think it was half and half. There were some that saw he was overrated from the start and others that continued to rate him as a misunderstood genius right until the first end.

He was very good for us in League one but wasn't anywhere near good enough at championship level
In fairness he suffered those injuries right from start of the 1st season back in championship - I dont think we ever saw a fit FB after the league 1 season. Sadly the desire to play through injury has really taken its toll, to where he is today.

Ah, come on.

He had about a month and a half last season when he looked as if he might be the player that we hoped he'd be, and then he reverted to type.

Over his spell here, he was a huge disappointment. We had Hull's pants down.

He was a liability in the Championship but after he was bedded in very good in League 1
I think it was more his body (for whatever reason) stopped being able to take the rigours of being a professional footballer than him being a crap footballer, though.

Romain Vincelot. Especially after he had his hair cut. Made him lose all his power

Surprised Tom Bayliss hasn't featured more.
I thought he was going to be Prem level for sure when he first played for us.
Went to Preston, nose dived and never really recovered

Ben Stephenson too.

Surely Bigirama trumps the lot. Along with Kevin Thornton.

Colin Stein averaging 7 goals a season despite the hefty (at the time) price tag and reputation. Maybe arriving at the same time as the Hutch made him seem more medicore. Undoubted winner though must be Kevin Drinkell. Big signing who safe to say would struggle to score in a tower block. Not a single goal in his final season with us. Perhaps the lesson is don't make big money signings from Rangers.

Forgot about Dabo, he was terrible mostly but people loved it.
When Dabo was rated ie in league 1/the start of the championship, was he over-rated? I’m not so sure.

Im pretty sure by the end everyone knew he should’ve been finished with us. I don’t remember people saying he was fantastic; ruined yes. They might still have loved him but that’s not the same.

I’m desperate to think of someone who fits the bill…
I’m gonna say Brian Borrows…that’s right! That’s one of my all time favourite players, Brian Borrows!
I’ve heard people saying he should’ve played loads of games for England. I’m gonna say he was ever so slightly too weak and too easily knocked off the ball. For evidence see David Platt’s goal vs us at highfield Rd.
I hate myself.
